Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 349

“Mr. Salmeron had something come up at work, so he’ll be late,” Mrs. Salmeron said, suddenly all warmth and smiles as she poured Amelia a cup of tea. “I already heard about you and Clive getting a divorce. I’m not one of those old-school, uptight mothers-in-law—I’m not against it. Marriage is your business, not mine. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. I just didn’t expect you two to split so suddenly. Honestly, I’m going to miss you a little...”

She was a pro at this—her eyes turned red, like she could cry on cue. To anyone watching, she’d seem like the sweetest, most understanding mother-in-law ever.

Amelia just watched her quietly, letting her play her part.

Mrs. Salmeron picked up her own cup and sighed, looking sincere. “Amelia, I know I haven’t been a perfect mother-in-law these last two years. I probably let you down or made you feel unwelcome sometimes. So today, I want to say I’m sorry.”

Caroline jumped in, trying to sound earnest. “Sister-in-law—wait, guess I have to start calling you Amelia now. You’ve done so much for me these years. You helped with my thesis, took care of my health, spent hours helping with my projects without ever asking for anything. I know I can be selfish. I want to apologize too.”

Amelia listened, her heart numb.

So they knew everything she’d done for them. Every sacrifice, every moment she felt left out—they knew, and they just didn’t care.

They never saw her as family. She was just free labor to them.

Amelia almost laughed.

She’d wanted a family so badly. She thought marrying Clive meant she’d finally belong somewhere.

She thought if she just tried hard enough, gave enough, one day they’d accept her.

But people who don’t care about you will never value what you give. They just see you as easy to use, someone foolish and cheap.

She looked at the cup of tea in front of her, reached out, and picked it up. Meeting Mrs. Salmeron and Caroline’s eyes, she smiled. “Let’s not go over the past anymore. After today, let’s just call it even.”

Caroline jumped in, way too eager. “Yes, exactly! Let’s toast to that, Amelia. Here’s to moving on!”

Amelia brought the teacup to her lips, then paused. Something crossed her mind, and she set it back down.

“Oh, right. Since you’re both here today, I won’t need to ask Mr. Salmeron to bring these gifts home for you.”

The two of them were practically holding their breath, watching her almost drink the tea—then she put it down at the last second.
