Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 354

Just then, a car came barreling out of nowhere.

“Shit!” Levi cursed, his frustration boiling over. He kicked over the fan beside him, forgetting about his wound until a sharp pain made him suck in a breath.

He stood there, seething, replaying the crash in his head. Whoever was behind the wheel hadn’t just hit them—they’d meant to kill.

“Levi, you alright?” one of his guys asked, worry creasing his face.

Levi didn’t bother to answer. He pulled out his phone, slipped into the shadows of the kitchen, and dialed a number he knew by heart.

It picked up instantly.

“It’s me,” Levi said quietly. “Things went sideways tonight. I’ll need another chance… I came back for a reason. I’m not letting what happened years ago slide. I’m going to settle this.”

...

Amelia figured Ryan would do what he always did—drop her off at the front gate and drive off. But tonight, he surprised her by checking in at the entrance and driving straight into the complex.

“Which building?” Ryan asked, sounding casual.

She gave him directions, and he parked in front of her building. As she reached for the door, she heard him suck in a breath behind her.

She glanced back and found Ryan pressing a hand to his stomach, his handsome features drawn tight with discomfort. He actually looked kind of pitiful.

“You okay?” she asked.

“No. My stomach’s killing me. I just want something warm,” Ryan muttered, looking exhausted. “Go on, don’t worry about me.”

Honestly, Amelia didn’t want to worry about him at all. The driver was still there, and with Ryan’s connections, he could get a world-class doctor or a famous chef with a single call. He didn’t need her fussing over him.

So she nodded politely. “Alright, Mr. Packman. I’ll head up, then.”

But before she could get both feet out of the car, Ryan’s voice followed her, low and just a little resentful.

“Go ahead. Even though I just saved your life and went out of my way to bring you right to your door…”

Amelia paused, lips pressed together.

She steeled herself and got out anyway.

Inside the car, Ryan watched her slim figure walk away, then smiled to himself in the rearview mirror. He counted under his breath, “Three, two, one.”

Right on cue, Amelia stopped, turned around, and came back to knock on his window.

“I probably have something you can eat at home. If you don’t mind, you can come up and have whatever I can put together.”

Ryan smiled. “Since you’re inviting me, it’d be rude to say no.”

He got out of the car and followed her inside, his long legs easily matching her pace.

In the elevator, Amelia pressed the button and stepped in. Ryan followed, his tall frame and broad shoulders making the space feel a lot smaller.

She inched to the side, keeping a careful distance.

Ryan noticed but didn’t say anything. He just reached out and flicked the little charm hanging from her bag.

When they got to her floor, Amelia unlocked the door and let him in. He glanced around. On the shoe rack, there were only two pairs of women’s slippers and two pairs for kids. No men’s shoes anywhere.

“Sorry, I don’t really get guests. I only have an extra pair of slippers for my best friend. Just come in, no need to take your shoes off,” Amelia said.

Ryan didn’t hesitate, just walked in after her.

Amelia headed straight for the kitchen. Knowing it was bad for his stomach to take medicine without food, she checked the fridge to see what she could scrape together.
