Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 385

Dr. Velez definitely hadn’t expected Clive to ask that. He froze for a split second, fumbling for the right words. “Uh, well—”

“Clive!” Kristen’s voice rang out just then as she walked into view.

She wasn’t alone—her parents, Hank and Bianca, were right behind her.

Catching Bianca’s eye, Dr. Velez quickly pushed his glasses up his nose and seized the chance to slip away. “Mr. Watts, I have an emergency to deal with. If you’ll excuse me.” Without waiting for a response, he hurried off.

Clive didn’t try to stop him. He let the doctor go and turned back to Kristen.

“Clive, what are you doing here?” Kristen beamed, looking genuinely surprised and happy to see him. “I was actually planning to swing by your office later and surprise you. I can’t believe you beat me to it.”

Her smile was sweet, her eyes full of hope and tenderness.

Clive felt a stab of guilt. Kristen had always put him first, had risked everything to save him, and here he was, letting Amelia’s words plant doubts in his mind.

He turned to Hank and Bianca, giving them a respectful nod. “Mr. Watts. Mrs. Watts.”

Hank’s mood was obvious—he didn’t even try to hide his irritation. “You must be proud of yourself, Clive. How many times has Kristen ended up in the hospital because of you now?”

Clive didn’t try to make excuses. “It’s my fault. I haven’t taken good care of Kristen. I’m sorry, sir.”

Hank looked like he wanted to say more, but Bianca gently touched his arm, stopping him.

“Darling, don’t you have that important meeting soon?” she said softly. “Let’s not keep them. Clive’s been here almost every day—he really does care about Kristen.”
