Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 429

Amelia skimmed through the proposal and, just like Susie said, it was way too much for Kristen to handle.

“This shouldn’t be hard to check. I’ll remind Dr. Wade to look into it,” she said.

“Alright,” Susie replied.

They decided to head back to the office. Amelia walked ahead, and as soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she came face-to-face with Clive.

Her mood instantly soured. She kept her face cold and pretended not to see him.

But Clive, tall as ever, blocked her way. Before she could say anything, he spoke first. “Penny was asking for you.”

The mention of her daughter’s name softened Amelia’s expression, if only slightly.

Clive pulled out his phone and showed her a few photos Donna had sent that morning.

In the pictures, Penny was holding her dress and giving a perfect little princess curtsy. She was wearing the new outfit Amelia had bought her last night.

Amelia’s features softened. She couldn’t help but reach out and touch her daughter’s adorable face on the screen.

Clive watched her and said quietly, “You have good taste. Penny really likes it.”

Amelia’s eyes darkened a bit.

No matter how much Penny liked the dress, she hadn’t sent her mom the photos herself. That said enough. Between her own mother and Kristen, Penny still leaned toward Kristen.

Out of nowhere, Clive said, “I got that leaf, by the way.”

Amelia blinked, confused. “What?”

Clive looked straight at her, his eyes reflecting her face.

Back then, if Clive stared at her like this, she would have blushed and her heart would have raced.

Now, she just paused for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed out loud. “You really think that leaf Timmy brought home was from me?”

When she saw Clive’s silence, her laughter grew even louder. There was so much sarcasm in it, Clive’s face actually turned a little green.

He frowned. “Amelia, what’s that supposed to mean?”

She was laughing so hard there were tears in her eyes. She wiped them away and looked at Clive like he was from another planet.

“Clive, do you have to be this self-absorbed? Do you seriously think every breath I take is because I still have feelings for you?” Her voice was sharp and cold. “If you’re sick, go see a doctor. Just stop coming around here to make me miserable.”

She didn’t even look at him again. Pushing past, she walked away without hesitation.
