Sebastian made it to Valeria’s neighborhood at midnight. The toothless security guard at the guardhouse was snoring loudly and just let any vehicle pass without any questions.
Sebastian soon arrived at Valeria’s apartment and parked his car.
He then rolled down the windows and looked up to find the sixth floor still bright, even though it was already past midnight.
Sebastian was feeling rather irritated. He pressed on his temples as he thought about her bright smile.
His car remained still in the middle of the neighborhood. There was nobody outside at that hour, and the entire apartment was dark except for that one light on the sixth floor.
The light stung Sebastian’s eyes.
He could not explain his feelings at the moment, but the very thought of Valeria sharing an intimate night and lying beside her husband after being so long apart made him immensely uncomfortable.
His temples throbbed in pain.
After another half an hour, he looked up at the bedroom window upstairs and saw that it was still lit up.
As far as he had known, Valeria’s husband only came back once a year.
He wondered whether they were still going at it after so long. Gritting his teeth, he pulled out his phone to call Valeria.
Valeria was leaning against the headboard, balancing a laptop on her knees.
She had just finished showering and was about to sleep when Kayla sent her an email in Elarian, asking her to translate it immediately.
Kayla was meeting a friend from Elaris tomorrow.
It was technically not Valeria’s job as the company already had a translator, but Valeria still agreed to help since it was Kayla’s personal matter.
Valeria had been taking leave for quite a number of days to attend to Selena’s hospitalization and surgery, which Kayla had approved without any complaints. As such, she did not want to

refuse Kayla’s request and started to translate the email throughout the night.

Back in university, she had always enjoyed watching niche Elarian films and even took elective classes for the Elarian language.
She was not a professional by any means, but she was more diligent than most people.
Valeria had never thought herself gifted. She knew that she needed to put in the effort if she wanted to achieve something. She had been swamped during her university years, spending most of her spare time with part–time work.
She also fell in love with a boy once, but that relationship went nowhere.
She thought about her future as well. Despite learning about the cruelty of reality, she still managed to keep a piece of innocence in her heart.
Valeria got up and went to Selena’s bedroom.
Both of her dogs were sprawled beside the bed. Potato was sound asleep, while Pork Chop lifted its head at the sound of the door opening, a testament to its alertness and loyalty.
It lay back down after seeing that it was Valeria.
She then tucked the blanket around Selena. As soon as she left Selena’s bedroom, her phone started ringing. Then, she rushed to her room, thinking it was Kayla calling.
She picked up her phone to find that it was Sebastian instead.
His voice immediately came through the moment Valeria answered the call. “Come downstairs.
་་
Valeria was in disbelief.
It was already past midnight after all.
She headed to the window and pulled back the curtain. “Did you drink too much tonight?”
Looking down, she noticed a black Volkswagen parked below instead of within a specified parking lot. She was not sure whether it was Sebastian’s.
Sebastian just remained silent,
Time seemed to pass by slowly in the silence of the night.
Valeria glanced at her phone, repeating, “Hello?”
He replied, “If you won’t come down, I’ll go to you instead.”
With that, he hung up before she could give her answer.

Valeria put on a black down jacket and grabbed the gift bag containing the blue haute couture gown. She closed the door quietly and went downstairs.
Sebastian opened the car door, grabbed her by the wrist, and pulled her toward him while adjusting the seat all at the same time.
Her back was pressed against the steering wheel, separated only by her pajamas and down jacket.
He then leaned forward, causing her to instinctively pull away and dodge his sudden kiss.
