Sebastian’s silence as he suppressed an outburst was within Valeria’s expectations.

She kept speaking. “You don’t love me. Our relationship shouldn’t even exist. We live different lives, and our paths could never truly cross. It wasn’t because of Shane. Even without him, you and I would never have been together.”

Sebastian replied, “You’re not me. How could you know I don’t love you?”

“I just know.” Valeria looked at him calmly before pushing him away.

It was probably because Sebastian’s thoughts were everywhere at that moment, but Valeria pushed him off easily. She walked to the doorway of the bedroom and turned on the light. The room brightened with a faint warm glow, but Sebastian, standing by the window, seemed untouched by it.

His body was cold, and his face was pale. He pressed his lips together and looked at her with a dark expression.

He said, “This ‘love‘ that you’re talking about, does it mean a marriage like Shane’s, where he shuts you out? He didn’t even show up for Selena’s surgery, and he wasn’t by your side when you gave birth. Is that marriage what you call love?”

Sebastian added, “And how do you know he doesn’t have another family in Amaran? He’s just leaving you here to take care of his mother and play the nanny.”

Sebastian was a man, and he knew men.

Selena carried her mother’s surname. Valeria’s marriage to Shane was no stronger than just something on a piece of paper.

Sebastian didn’t understand why Valeria was rejecting him for the sake of a marriage like that Valeria listened quietly, but her expression remained unshaken. There wasn’t even so much as a frown.

Compared to anger, grief, or outrage, this calmness was what undid Sebastian the most.

Even during these past nights, when they had been together, he often saw no real desire in her eyes. Her cheeks would be flushed and her lashes would be wet, but her gaze remained calm and detached.

It was as if, aside from the uncontrollable response of her body, Valeria felt nothing for him.

He walked forward, clamping his fingers onto her shoulders. “If I came too abruptly and upset you tonight, I’ll listen to you from now on.”

He continued, “I’m younger and richer than him. I can give you an even better experience. What’s wrong with letting me be your lover? We can go back to how we were before once he leaves the country.”

Valeria did not want mistakes to pile upon mistakes, but the man in front of her was so obsessive that he felt like a stranger.

She had never imagined she would hear such words from Sebastian’s mouth. It was shocking and unthinkable. And he was saying them to her.

In the past, all she dared to dream of was slipping her hand into his as they walked through campus together.

Valeria shook her head. She said with a low voice, “You don’t love me.”

And he never would. He liked the pretty, slender Valeria. He didn’t know who she really was.

“What makes you so sure? Why are you so determined to deny me?” Sebastian growled. He thought he was about to go crazy.

Valeria said, “You don’t want to know. Let’s just let each other go.”

“You won’t tell me? You’re making decisions for me and making me break up. Is it because Shane found out about us? Is he forcing you? Is he threatening you with Selena?” Sebastian pressed her.

He said, “If you divorce, I can get you the best lawyer. Custody of Selena will be yours, and I’ll protect your reputation. Public opinion won’t hurt you. If Shane wants money, I’ll give him a blank check. He works in tech research. The Grant Group can even support him!”
