Valeria spoke calmly. “Sebastian, if you ever get married and your wife becomes pregnant, please stay by her side. Pregnant women are incredibly vulnerable. You should be patient with her and treat her with kindness.”

No matter how privileged, how wealthy, how powerful a woman was, in that moment, all she wanted was the one person who mattered most by her side.

Valeria’s words hit Sebastian like a slap.

He gave a cold, bitter smile. “Don’t worry. I’m nothing like Shane.”

He would never abandon his wife during her most crucial moments, nor would he choose a long–distance marriage and leave everything on his wife’s shoulders like Valeria had to bear.

However, deep down, Sebastian knew–he might never get married or have children at all.

That night, he came to understand that even after 29 years, even if he truly wanted to love someone, it wouldn’t change the outcome.

It was because Valeria looked at him, saying, “Lucy and Shane mean a lot to me. Without them, I might not have made it in Slate City.”

Back then, she didn’t have a stable job. She was raising Selena alone.

Valeria’s eyes were bright. Her voice was steady yet gentle.

Tear stains still lingered faintly on her face. She looked vulnerable yet beautiful.

She had a bit of wine, and her cheeks were slightly flushed. However, when she mentioned Lucy and Shane, there was warmth in her voice and eyes.

Under the glow of the light, Sebastian’s tiny figure was reflected in Valeria’s eyes. He picked up the clothes scattered on the couch and helped her put them on, one piece at a time.

He had decided to follow the voice in his heart.

Leaning down, he gently kissed her lips, the corners of her mouth, her chin, and her cheeks. In a husky voice, he said, “From now on, we’ll just keep this between us.”

After all, Shane would only be home for a few days before leaving again once his annual leave ended.

Sebastian chose to endure it all. He quietly accepted the role of the other man. Finding an hour or two in the day to meet her was never hard for him.

His warm hand rested against her stomach. His fingertips gently brushed over the scar there and settled on her flat belly. The warmth of his touch made Valeria’s body tense slightly.

He stared at her face and whispered, “I’ll listen to you. Since you said we’ll meet tomorrow,

we’ll do so.”

Valeria met his eyes. Deep down, she knew it was time to let go. She wanted to tell him that it

was time to end whatever they had and return to their own lives.

Her lips moved slightly. “We…”

All of a sudden, Sebastian pulled her into an embrace, burying his face in the curve of her neck

and shoulder.

He closed his eyes and breathed in her light, sweet scent. Following her words, he murmured,

“We’ll meet in secret from now on. No one will ever find out.”

“Sebastian, don’t you think a relationship like this is twisted?” Valeria asked softly.

“It’s perfectly fine,” he replied.

He knew what she was trying to say. He wasn’t clueless–his instincts were just as sharp as

hers.

His breath fell against the delicate skin of her neck, and as he spoke, he lowered his head and placed a kiss there.

“Valeria, my birthday is coming up. You have to get me a present.”

Sebastian’s short hair brushed against her neck, making it tickle. He had just showered, and his hair was soft and fluffy. It was quite different from his usual cool and composed look.

She replied calmly, “There’s still a long way to go.”

His birthday wasn’t until after the New Year.

That night, they didn’t go any further. However, when Valeria wanted to go home, Sebastian wouldn’t let her leave. He wrapped his arms around her, sat her down on the couch, and put on
