Chapter 67
Valeria smiled. “I’m happy as long as Leo likes it.”
She took a step forward subconsciously, blocking Selena from view.
Valeria told Selena to go and have fun with her classmates. All the kids here today knew each other. Selena had to get along with them.
Slate City had been raining incessantly for the past few days.
Martha had been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. She always needed Avery’s help to get up. Suddenly, she saw Leo running upstairs, dragging a girl behind him, followed by a gaggle of kids. Martha was happy to see Leo enjoying himself.
However, when she saw the girl’s side profile, she froze. The young girl was cute, but she looked extremely similar to Sebastian. That being said, Martha was aware that the Grants weren’t lucky enough to be blessed with such an adorable granddaughter out of nowhere.
Martha knew her son too well.
Fate worked in mysterious ways. Martha liked Selena the second she laid eyes on her.
With a tray of blueberry tarts fresh out of the oven, Martha walked upstairs.
Their second floor was huge. The children were huddled in the movie room, watching a
cartoon.
Martha headed over and distributed the tarts. Then, she observed Selena, who was sitting on
the couch silently. She didn’t make a fuss to get the tarts.
In a pink cardigan and space buns, Selena reminded Martha of a strawberry cake. It felt as though her heart was melting from the cuteness.
“What’s your name, love?”
“My name is Selena, but you can call me Lenny.”
“What a beautiful name.” Martha caressed Selena’s hair before taking her hand. “Come, you don’t have to play with the boys. I’ll bring you to the study. There’s a projector in there as well. Tell me what you’d like to watch.”
Martha genuinely adored the girl. It felt like they were fated to meet. Bringing home such a sweet granddaughter was the stuff of her dreams.
In her favorite daydream, Martha imagined a woman arriving on their doorstep with a child, claiming it belonged to Sebastian before demanding him to take responsibility for the child.
At this point in her dream, Martha would always chuckle while she chorused her willingness

“What’s this, Grandma? It’s so pretty.” Selena’s eyes were drawn to the pin on Martha’s dress. Little girls loved shiny jewelry of this sort.
When Selena called her “Grandma”, Martha immediately took the pin off and fastened it to Selena’s cardigan instead.
“It’s so pretty on you. I’ll give this to you.”
“I can’t take it. Mom said I can’t take things from strangers.”
“You’re Leo’s classmate, and I’m his grandma. How could we possibly be strangers? In the future, come visit Leo from time to time. We’ll be able to meet frequently too.”
Martha discreetly plucked a strand of Selena’s hair.
As Valeria stood up, the helpers approached her with a cup of tea, and accidentally spilled it on her. They apologized profusely while pulling tissues out to help her wipe the stain.
Valeria smiled and waved them off. Then, she headed over to the bathroom to clean up.
