Chapter 138
Alia POV
Being the mistress of the Castro family had been Maria’s wish for years. Now that Gabriel was no longer an option, she was looking for another way.
Now that Maria had left Kane and broken away from Gabriel, she would surely be more successful than when she had depended on them.
“So Miss Maria still has her sights set on the Castro family,” Federico said with narrowed eyes and an enigmatic smile. “Once our plan is implemented and the Castro family falls, it won’t be called the Castro family anymore.”
“So what?” Maria coldly retorted.
In her view, no matter who took control, the Castro family would still be that once–glorious
dynasty.
Federico’s lips curled into a smile. “Since Miss Maria doesn’t care, then here’s to a successful partnership.”
Maria wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries. She took a small box from her bag and tossed it through the window to Federico. “The contents of this box are enough for you to bring them
down.”
Having been by Gabriel’s side for so many years, Maria was more than just a pretty face. She had kept evidence of every dirty deed the Rossi and Castro families had committed together
over the years.
This evidence was her insurance policy. As long as they didn’t betray her, the evidence would never see the light of day.
So whatever terrible fate awaited the Castro family, it would be entirely Gabriel and the others‘ own doing, nothing to do with her.
“Miss Maria, the weather is about to change. You should head back soon,” Federico said, waving goodbye before starting his car and driving away.
Maria watched his car disappear into the distance, a mocking smile playing on her lips, “Federico, you think this is all I’ve prepared? Just wait–I’ll be the ultimate winner.”

Chapter 138
Since I was eager to return to Portano, Marco had Luca change our flight to seven o’clock tonight.
The weather forecast predicted heavy snow for the next two days.
The airport would temporarily close then, directly affecting my plans to return to Monterano.
The thought of returning to Portano soon filled me with joy.
Perhaps because Monterano was a place of heartbreak, I didn’t want to stay here a moment longer.
In the VIP waiting lounge, I glanced sideways at Marco sitting beside me. He was still busy- reviewing documents, making phone calls, never stopping for a moment.
“What are you thinking about?” Marco finally turned his attention to me.
“I’m wondering, with you being so busy all day, does your big boss at Black Hawk just sit in his office counting money?”
Hearing my somewhat irritated tone, Marco chuckled deeply. “Bank employees are the ones who count money all day.”
I pouted at him. “It’s Sunday and they don’t even give you a day off. How much does your boss pay you anyway?”
Marco actually gave it serious thought before answering, “Enough to support you, at least.”
“Who needs you to support me? I can earn my own money.” Though I didn’t need his financial support, hearing something resembling sweet talk from him sent a flutter of warmth through my heart.
I asked, “We’re boarding soon. Have you finished your work?”
“All done.” Marco turned off his devices and handed his laptop to Luca. He put his arm around me and sniffed my hair. “Why are you so happy?”
“Because we’re going home,” I nestled into his embrace, nuzzling him gently. “Christmas is coming soon, and I need to get home to prepare.”
Marco tilted my chin up and said, “Spend Christmas and Chinese New Year with me at my
home.”
Suddenly hearing Marco suggest taking me to his home, I felt excited but also worried. What if

his family didn’t like me? What would I do then?
From Marco’s behavior, manners, clothing, and eating habits, his family was clearly not
ordinary.
And then I thought about my own family-
Thinking about my family sent a pang of sadness through me.
If Marco’s parents asked about my parents, how would I answer?
“Alia-” Marco noticed my concern and kissed my forehead. “You’re my wife. My family will love
you.”
“Really?” It wasn’t that I lacked confidence, but I had too many flaws.
Some things Marco might believe about me, but his family might not be so trusting.
Some people say marriage is between two people, and as long as Marco believes in me, that’s
enough.
But I don’t see it that way. If I want to spend my life with Marco, I want the blessing of our
elders too.
“Of course it’s true,” Marco said, ruffling my hair.
“Flight MK9527 to Portano is now boarding…”
Hearing the boarding announcement, Marco suddenly lifted me up in his arms, startling me. I lightly punched his shoulder. “There are so many people here. Put me down.”
“What does it matter if there are people?” He was carrying his own wife, not someone else’s. Why should others care?
With so many eyes on us, I felt embarrassed.
But Marco seemed oblivious to this, holding me with an iron grip that I couldn’t resist.
This was my husband–somewhat domineering, emotionally obtuse at times, but also incredibly considerate.
We arrived home after ten in the evening.
The housekeeper responsible for Laura had already brought her back home.

Having not seen her mother for a long time, Laura was in a bad mood, lying motionless on the
sofa.
When she heard the door opening, her nose twitched, and she quickly rushed to greet us.
After opening the door, I peeked in and immediately spotted Laura.
Laura, my little baby…” I called out to her.
Laura wagged her tail incessantly, her ears standing straight up. “Woof, woof, woof…”
Just then, Marco received a phone call outside, and his expression darkened. “Give me the address. I’ll be there right away.”
