Chapter 61
Alia POV
Dr. Bernardo’s coldness suddenly vanished, replaced by an almost uncomfortable reverence.
“Mrs. Vittorio, please accept my sincere apologies for our previous misunderstanding,” he said with a slight bow. “I wasn’t properly informed of your situation.”
I smiled, polite and courteous: “Hello, Dr. Bernardo!”
Luca added, “We were too anxious this morning and our attitude was poor. Please forgive us, Mrs. Vittorio.
Luca and the others had been by Marco’s side for years, demonstrating strong competence while earning Marco’s deep trust. Over time, they had become almost like family to him.
It was precisely because they knew Marco so well–aware that he rarely fell ill, but when he did, it could be serious–that this morning’s situation had occurred.
Since they hadn’t known me for long, they naturally treated me as an outsider in the emergency.
Just as I was about to speak, Marco asked, “Alia, do you know what a marriage certificate truly represents?”
I was a bit confused, not understanding what Marco wanted to say.
Marco looked at Luca and Dr. Bernardo, then continued slowly: “Legally speaking, when two people get a marriage certificate, they’re essentially placing their lives in each other’s hands. If I were gravely ill today and needed a family member’s signature for emergency treatment, the person who could sign for me would be you–Alia!”
In my view, getting married simply meant two people living life together–continuing if things worked out, separating if they didn’t.
I had never considered that in Marco’s eyes, a marriage certificate held such profound significance–that he was willing to entrust his very life to me.
Hearing Marco’s words, Luca and Dr. Bernardo exchanged glances. Marco’s point was valid; in an emergency had the legal authority to sign.
Bong everyone in the room, only I
Marco continued, “If you need to change my medication, do it quickly, When you’re done, everyone leave. Don’t come in and disturb me unnecessarily.
“Yes, sir.” Dr. Bernardo quickly changed Marco’s IV bag and gave him oral medication. “Young master, this medicine contains a small amount of sleeping aid. You should rest after taking it.”
After Dr. Bernardo and Luca left, Marco looked at me intently and patted the space beside him. “Alia, come lie down with me for a while.”
“Okay.” I walked over and squeezed in beside him.
As soon as I lay down, Marco extended his arm and pulled me into his embrace, burying his head in the crook of my neck, inhaling my scent. ‘Alia…
“Hmm?” I didn’t struggle, allowing him to hold me.
“When I woke up today and didn’t see you, I felt so disappointed for some reason.” Marco’s deep, sensual voice came from above my head, his breath circling around me as he spoke, making my heart race and thy cheeks flush.
Though Marco’s words weren’t explicitly romantic, they affected me more deeply than any love declaration could have.
I gently wrapped my arms around his strong waist, pressing my cheek against his chest and nuzzling slightly. “Marco, I won’t disappoint you again.
If we ever faced a situation like today’s again, I wouldn’t let others take Marco away, I would stay by his side as his wife and take care of him.
Marco didn’t respond. I lay in his arms for a long time, my body growing stiff. When I looked up discreetly, I saw that he had already fallen asleep.
Chapter 61
The doctor had mentioned that Marco’s medication contained a sleeping aid to help him rest, as good sleep would aid his recovery.
I carefully tried to move Marco’s arm from around me, shifting slightly to find a more comfortable position beside him.
But with just that slight movement, Marco, though deeply asleep, instinctively tightened his hold on me.
I couldn’t help but smile, my lips curving upward, and 1 unconsciously tightened my own arms around him.
It rained a little today, causing the temperature to drop several degrees suddenly,
But the city of Portano wasn’t affected by the cold air. In fact, these past few days had been unprecedentedly lively.
After news spread that the new Godfather of the Black Hawk Council would be moving headquarters to Portano, business elites from across the country gathered there. The city became extraordinarily vibrant, adding color to the cold winter.
Hotels were suddenly fully booked, with prices soaring overnight. Portano’s restaurants were filled with businesspeople from all over the country, quietly conversing while savoring expensive wines. Construction crews worked around the clock on the new headquarters, their lights illuminating the harbor at night.
Some came to survey the market, while others hoped to meet the leader of the Black Hawk Council to establish cooperation.
Among those most eager to meet the Black Hawk Council’s leader was Gabriel Castero./
In a luxurious office overlooking Portano harbor, Gabriel angrily threw down his phone, causing the crystal paperweight on his desk to rattle from the impact.
“Three months?” he shouted at Ricardo. “They want me to wait three months to meet Mr. Vittorio?”
Ricardo nodded nervously, fidgeting with the folder in his hands. “Sir, that’s what his scheduler said. All of Mr. Vittorio’s appointments are booked until
then.”
Gabriel wanted to gain more power within the Castero family, and the most direct and effective way was to establish cooperation with the Black Hawk Council.
He had already sent Ricardo to deliver several invitations to the Black Hawk Council, but each time the answe

Once or twice would have been understandable, but after nearly ten attempts without even securing an appointment, Gabriel’s patience was wearing thin.
“Scheduled three months from now? Think harder about whether there’s a shortcut. The sooner I meet him, the better. Gabriel had recently taken over some of the Castero family’s business operations, but many high–ranking family members seemed unsatisfied with him.
Therefore, he was desperate to meet the Godfather of the Black Hawk Council and establish cooperation to prove his capabilities to those who underestimated him.
Ricardo thought for a moment and said, “Young master, I’ve heard some rumors recently, though I’m not sure if they’re true.”
Gabriel coldly stared at Ricardo. “Just spit it out. Don’t play games with me.”
Ricardo contínued, “The Vittorio family keeps a low profile. No media has ever captured a photo of the Godfather, and his love life has always been a subject of public interest, though no one has discovered any information. However, I recently heard that while the Godfather may be ruthless in business, he’s extremely loyal to women. They say he has refused multiple marriage arrangements from other families.”
Gabriel stopped pacing, his interest piqued. ‘Is that so?”
Ricardo nodded. “That’s why many were shocked when the Godfather suddenly got married. This wasn’t the political alliance everyone had anticipated.
“Speaking of which, Gabriel said, his voice turning dangerous, “have you discovered anything about this mysterious Mrs. Vittorio who appeared out of nowhere?
