Chapter 64
Alia POV
At the mention of Marco, my face instantly turned red,
jokes Francesca had told that night.
Seeing my flushed face, Francesca tapped my forehead: “You hopeless girl. Just mentioning a man makes you fall apart.
“Fran, can we please stop saying ‘man‘ every other word? Let would surely scold me to death.
the subject, I didn’t want to continue talking about Marco; if I slipped up, Francesca
As I spoke, I put some food in her bowl: “Considering you flew for over ten hours, let me serve you dinner tonight.”
“That’s thoughtful of you,” Francesca smiled, then added, “I still
met
your man. Aren’t you going to introduce us?*
I’ve been planning to introduce you, but your schedules never aligned, and
away on business these days,” I replied helplessly.
Just as we were discussing Marco, his call came through.
I smiled gently: “He’s calling. Let me answer it first.”
Marco’s voice on the phone was as deep and sexy as always: “It’s so late, why aren’t
you
home? Where have you gone?”
It sounded like a reproach, but I took it as concern, and smiled: “I’m having dinner with Fran.”
After a brief silence, Marco asked: “Where are you eating?”
“At Rosa Restaurant in the port district,” I paused, then added, “When are you free? I’d like to invite you there sometime.”
“Hmm, I understand.”
I wanted to chat more with Marco, but he seemed busy, so I said goodbye and hung up.
What I failed to notice was a crucial point: if Marco was away on business, he wouldn’t know I wasn’t home yet, but h home.
sked why I hadn’t returned
“Alia, why do I feel like you’re a submissive little wife in front of your man, not even daring to speak up? You even blush during a phone call. You were never like this before, Francesca had been observing my expressions and tone throughout, and she found it astonishing.
I also found it strange. When discussing business, I was quite articulate and eloquent, but with Marco, I naturally became shy and less fluent.
When I was dating Gabriel before, Francesca had never seen me blush like this.
Logically, since that was my first love, I should have been more easily embarrassed then, but back then I was like a boy, with a wild temperament.
Francesca thought to herself that perhaps Marco was truly the one destined for me.
No matter how strong a woman is, once she meets someone who genuinely cares for her, she naturally behaves more like a traditional woman.
After dinner, it was already late. Francesca and I put on our coats and walked out, chatting.
I was wearing an orange–red coat today. With my naturally fair skin, this color made my complexion glow with a rosy tint, giving me a distinctive charm.
Francesca complimented me as we walked, her exaggerated tone almost making me laugh out loud.
“Miss Alia, Miss Fran, please wait!”
Just as we were enjoying our conversation, Ricardo and his men blocked our path.
Chapter 64
“What are you doing here? Francesca asked.
Ricardo had been by Gabriel’s side for many years. Both Francesca and I recognized him, though we didn’t have a strong impression of him before, only knowing he was one of Gabriel’s assistants.
If Ricardo was here, Gabriel was likely nearby too. Concerned about Gabriel’s appearance and unaware that I had already met Gabriel, Francesca looked at me worriedly: “Alia…”
I smiled at her: “Silly girl, don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Ricardo said: “Miss Alia, the young master would like to invite both of you for a drink. Would you ladies honor us with your presence?”
I smiled: “Please tell the young master that we’re not available, and ask him not to disturb our lives anymore.”
“Miss Alia, the young master just instructed me that if I can’t bring you back, I should cut off one of my fingers. Please take pity on me,” Ricardo’s words sounded pitiful, but his expression remained arrogant.
Hearing this, Francesca became angry: “Tell that beast Gabriel to go to hell. After doing such shameless things back then, he still has the nerve to show up in front of Alia? I swear I’ll kill him myself.”
I quickly grabbed Francesca and shook my head: “Fran, calm down.”
“How can I be calm when that beast has the audacity to look for you?” As she shouted, Francesca finally realized something was off. “Alia, are you okay?”
She was so agitated, while I remained too calm–calm as if Gabriel had never existed in my life.
“So, you ladies won’t cooperate, Ricardo shook his head regretfully. “But the young master must see you tonight, so I’ll have to be rude.”
With that, Ricardo gestured, and the bodyguards behind him immediately surrounded us.
Francesca and I almost simultaneously stepped forward to shield each other. I discreetly signaled to Francesca, who understood and retreated behind me.
Looking at Ricardo, I smiled gently: “Ricardo, we’re old acquaintances after all, aren’t we?”
Ricardo said: ‘Does this mean Miss Alia is willing to come with us?”
I nodded, keeping a smile on my face: “With such a formal invitation, how could I refuse?”
While I was stalling Ricardo, Francesca had quietly dialed emergency services.
After connecting, Francesca pulled me back and deliberately said loudly: “Alia, you can’t go with them. We’re in Portano City; I don’t believe the Castero family would dare to kidnap someone openly.”
I shook my head: “Fran, they’re targeting me. You should leave first and not worry about me.”
Ricardo said: “Since Miss Fran calls this kidnapping, she’s forcing our hand. Miss Alia, please get in the car!”
“Who the hell dares to touch me?” As they surrounded us, I abandoned my gentle demeanor and shouted angrily, momentarily startling those approaching.
But intimidation only works briefly, and we could only hope that patrol officers would arrive before we were taken away.
Ricardo sneered: “Brothers, take her!”
I’d like to see who dares touch her!*
A deep, cold voice sounded behind Ricardo, sending chills down everyone’s spine
