Oliver trudged back to his place, feeling the need for another shower. The walk had been insanely hot, leaving him drenched in sweat. After freshening up, he wrapped a towel around his waist, his chiseled abs on full display. Just then, his phone started buzzing non-stop. He answered, and Grandpa Brandon's voice boomed through the speaker.
"Oliver, where on earth are you? I've been waiting at your place forever. Why aren't you back yet?"
"I'm not coming home today," Oliver replied.
Grandpa Brandon sounded both shocked and thrilled, his voice bubbling with excitement. "You're at Josie's place, aren't you?!"
The mere thought seemed to send Grandpa Brandon into overdrive. "Oliver, my boy, you're really something! Have you made me a great-grandfather already? I better start hitting the gym if I'm going to be lifting babies. But wait, how'd you get past Grandpa Robert? Aren't you worried about Josie's grandad and her three brothers kicking you out?"
Oliver was at a loss for words. He stayed silent, not wanting to get into it.
"Did they rough you up? Well, if they did, you probably deserved it. But hang in there, son. For Josie, you can tough it out!"
Oliver couldn't believe how out of hand this conversation was getting. He just wanted to hang up.
"Grandpa, you're overthinking it. I'm at my own house, not Josie's."
Grandpa Brandon let out a roar, "Oliver, can't you show some guts? Do you plan on being single forever? Man up! Be bold, be generous, be gentle, got it? If you don't know how to chase a girl, I'll show you. It took me a whole year to win over your grandma!"
"A year? Grandpa, that's not exactly impressive," Oliver shot back.
"Why, you little rascal! Shut your mouth!" Grandpa Brandon fumed.
If it hadn't been for that one incident, Grandpa Brandon wouldn't be alone now. His beloved had gone to heaven.
