My Death Countdown (by Netulla) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11

When Adrien received the call from the police, he had just entered the study and was about to open the drawer next to the printer.

He truly had no idea where to look for Sylvia. Suddenly, he remembered that she seemed to have written a wish list before, and he hoped to find some clues from it, which was why he started rummaging through everything.

But when he heard the words coming through the phone, his hand, which was resting on the drawer handle, suddenly clenched tightly.

Mr. Adrien Farrell, is that correct? Do you have a moment right now? Please come to the NYPD 20th Precinct. We have some matters to discuss with you regarding your wife, Sylvia.

The police station?

As soon as those three words appeared, Adrien’s breathing became erratic.

A wave of unprecedented panic surged in his heart.

He didn’t even change his shoes, rushing out and driving there in a hurry.

When he arrived at his destination, he looked at the surroundings and felt an odd sense of familiarity.

After getting out of the car, he walked to the entrance and saw the police emblem hanging high above. Only then did he remember that the last time he was here, he had run into Sylvia.

At that time, he had asked her what she was doing there, but she hadn’t answered him directly.

Now, returning to the same place and recalling the past, Adrien grew increasingly uneasy.

His intuition told him that what he was about to learn must be closely related to that day.

His heart was pounding rapidly, as if it were about to leap out of his chest.

He couldn’t help but clench his fists, fabricating a story in his mind-the police have found traces of Sylvia-trying to suppress the panic that was threatening to overwhelm him.

He stood outside the door for a long time before finally managing to compose himself and walk inside.

When the staff heard his name, they invited him into a small office, flipped through a thick stack of documents for a while, and asked him a few questions.

Are you and Sylvia married?

We are married.

Chapter 11

You haven’t divorced?

We haven’t divorced.

Upon hearing his answer, the staff member immediately frowned and muttered a few words.

Didn’t you say last time that you were getting a divorce? Why haven’t you divorced yet?

Adrien’s heart leapt into his throat.

Previously, he had also heard the word divorcefrom others and knew that Sylvia wanted to divorce him.

But until she disappeared, she had never mentioned anything about divorce, and he had never signed any divorce pa-

pers.

He couldn’t understand why, if she had the idea of divorce, she didn’t bring it up, but instead chose to disappear.

He thought about it for a long time and finally came up with only one reason.

Sylvia actually didn’t want a divorce, and the reason she kept bringing it up everywhere was to make him realize and admit to his emotional infidelity.

And her disappearance became a crucial part of this plan.

Only by vanishing would he focus all his attention on searching for her and learn of her intentions through others.

Adrien used this logic to comfort himself, trying to convince himself that there was still a chance to make things right.

But in front of the police, he could no longer deceive himself.

So, in a panic, he stood up and anxiously asked a question that made him even more uneasy.

Did she come to see you before? What procedure did she handle?

Account cancellation.

Upon hearing those two words, Adrien’s pupils widened abruptly, and his right eyelid started twitching uncontrol- lably.
