The slap was so hard that Adrien saw stars before his eyes, his whole body crashing into the wall.

Hearing the anger and choking sobs in his mother’s voice, he froze completely, not daring to lift his head to look at her again.

At this moment, silence was tantamount to acquiescence.

Davina knew that everything about Sylvia’s suicide was shrouded in strangeness.

This heartbroken reproach from his own family was more than Adrien could bear.

He felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body, and he slid down the wall to the floor.
