Andrea had no memory of any of this.

Still, she was good at reading people. Recalling Sean’s strange behavior today, and how he’d kept staring at her arm when he first arrived….

Andrea sensed something. She pretended to reminisce with him:

Of course I remember. You were covered in blood. It terrified me.

I remember forcing the car door open to pull you out before it exploded. My arm was covered in wounds.

You wouldn’t believe how scary the scars looked after they healed. Thank goodness I had surgery to fade them lat- er

Andrea knew all about the arm injury.

Because that day, she’d seen Maureen. She’d asked Maureen about it afterward

Before, Sean would’ve believed Andrea without question. Now, he was doubtful.

Chapter27

He hoped he wasn’t mistaken.

Outside Pearl.

Geoffrey sat in his car, lighting one cigarette after another.

Today, he’d visited Maureen’s old placenow completely deserted.

He’d sent people to track Maureen’s whereabouts, but so far, nothing.

Geoffrey stubbed out his last cigarette, a headache pulsing.

Stepping out of the car, he pushed the door openand there was that familiar silhouette.

Geoffrey’s eyes sharpened. He lunged forward, ready to pull her into his arms.

But the moment he reached out, the figure vanished

Only then did Geoffrey realize it was a hallucination.

Sinking onto the sofa, he masked the disappointment in his eyes and rubbed his temples.

He hadn’t slept a wink last night, exhaustion weighing heavy.

Yet leaning back now, sleep wouldn’t come.

He refused to believe Andrea was gone
