Chapter 79

Two bodyguards accompanied me to the funeral. I bent down to pay respects to Johan’s portrait. The only thing I could do was give his family some
money.
I took out my phone and attempted to transfer 1 million to Johan’s account, hoping it would alleviate my guilt.
However, the transfer was unsuccessful due to a lack of sufficient funds.
I was shocked and tried to transfer one thousand dollars but it also failed.
I then tried one dollar, and it still didn’t work.
I was puzzled. Why couldn’t I transfer money even though I had enough balance?
Suddenly, it dawned on me what Caitlyn meant when she said Leland blocked all internet access on my phone. Was Leland trying to control every aspect of my
life?
Those two bodyguards walked over to me.”Ms. Perez, we need to head back. Mr. Pearson is insisting.”
I looked at Efrain, who was beside me, overwhelmed with sorrow, and Denise, who watched me with concern.
Eventually, Denise couldn’t hold it in anymore and rushed over.”Kay, why are you ignoring me? Can you go with me to find Allen?”
“Ms. Perez is unwell, please stay back.” Before Denise could finish, the bodyguards intervened.
Denise was shoved away and stumbled backward, almost falling.
I held back my anger. “Is it also Leland’s order to push away my friend?”
I tossed my phone to a bodyguard.”I can’t do anything with this phone now, so can I at least chat with my friend for a bit?”
The bodyguards exchanged looks, and one stepped forward. “Sorry, Ms. Perez, Mr. Pearson instructed that you are not allowed to talk to anyone.” He then grabbed my arm and forced me into the car.
I was so mad and blurted out, “Damn you, Leland. Denise, remember to take good care of your parents.”
By the time I finished yelling, the car had already begun to move. I watched Denise, who had so much to say but had to hold back, and it hurt my heart.
