My shouting did not make Leland soften towards me. I pressed my ear against the door and heard their conversation, though it was muffled.

Leland grasped Caitlyn’s chin firmly. “Caitlyn, remember why you’re here. She is my wife, after all. Show her at least some respect!”

Caitlyn’s voice took on a defensive tone, “I get it, Mr. Pearson. I was just trying to help you train her. She said she won’t cook and she doesn’t want to run the company.

“But Mr. Pearson, time’s running out for you. I know you’re transferring the Perez family’s assets to me just to push Ms. Perez, to make her step up and reclaim what’s rightfully hers. I understand it.”

Leland released her chin.”Good. Don’t covet what isn’t yours. And I advise you not to scheme. Even if I have a little time left, none of the Perez family’s assets will be handed over to you.”

Caitlyn’s voice trembled with fear, “Yes, yes, I understand. You’ve already given me a lot of money and a villa. My child and I will live a good life relying on these assets. I won’t compete with Kaylie. My focus now is to make her stronger. I understand.”
