In a dimly lit room, the air was thick with the scent of blood and alcohol.
The table was covered with blood–stained gauze, and a silver tray held a bloodied bullet, making for a gruesome sight.
“Boss, it’s done,” someone said.
The boss, biting down on a piece of cloth, had a face pale with sweat. He glanced at his bandaged wound before weakly
removing the cloth from his mouth.
“Boss, what do we do next?” one of his men asked.
The boss’s jaw was tense, his amber eyes looking particularly intense.
“The goods have been hijacked. Staying here is pointless, and who knows if they’ll come after us. Boss, should we leave
tonight?” another man suggested.
“Leaving now would only draw more attention, especially with the boss’s leg injured!” someone else argued.
“So what do we do? Just sit here and wait?”
“Boss!”
“Shut up!” the boss suddenly snapped in a low voice.
Silence fell over the room.
After a moment, the boss slowly raised his eyes, his gaze fierce as it swept over them. “Don’t worry, they won’t come after
us.”
“Boss, Ray King’s people won’t let us off easily!” one of the men insisted.
“Ray King?” Boss frowned. “What do you mean? What’s the connection to Ray King?”

“Those who tried to hijack the goods were all Ray King’s men, Boss. Didn’t you know?”
Boss’s expression darkened. “Are you saying the people at the docks were Ray King’s men?”
The subordinate nodded.
“Are you sure?” Boss asked coldly.
“We’ve clashed with them several times. The leader was Ray King’s deputy’s brother. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to
take him down this time!” the subordinate said angrily.
Boss’s face grew even darker, his eyes narrowing slightly as a cryptic smile played on his lips. “Looks like they’ve put in
some effort to deal with me!”
“Boss, what should we do next? The mission failed, and reporting back to the General won’t be easy,” the subordinate said
worriedly.
Boss’s gaze turned fierce, and after a moment, a cold smile appeared on his lips.
If that’s the case, then don’t blame me for being ruthless.
J, the more you cherish something, the more I’ll make sure you lose it.
With that thought, he spoke, “You guys handle the arrangements for our return. Leave the rest to me!”
“And about the General…”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it!” he assured.
Hearing this, the subordinates nodded, reassured.
“Alright, Boss, get some rest!” With that, he left the room.
Inside, Boss stared at the phone on the table, pondering for a moment before picking it up and dialing a number…
“Hello.”
Hearing the voice on the other end, a mischievous glint flashed in his amber eyes.

“Ms. Adler, still up this late?”
“You didn’t call me at this hour just to ask pointless questions, did you?” Scarlett Adler replied bluntly.
Boss chuckled, “Ms. Adler, your tone isn’t as friendly as it was the other day.”
“But you’re just as long–winded as ever.”
He paused slightly, “Seems like you know me a bit, Ms. Adler.”
“I’m not interested in knowing you. What I’m interested in is why you called,” Scarlett said.

“In that case, I’ll get straight to the point. Ms. Adler, Terry Adler is your father, isn’t he?”
Scarlett suddenly froze. Hearing her father’s name from a stranger was both a shock and a challenge. Yet, she maintained
her composure, not wanting to be led by him or give him any advantage.
“Do you know my father?”
“Yes, I knew him. We were once quite close,” he replied.
“Really?”
“Your tone suggests you don’t quite believe me.”
Scarlett remained silent.
“Well, considering how well your father knew me, it’s surprising I didn’t know he had a daughter. It seems he protected
you very well,” Boss said softly.
Scarlett listened, still silent, but she had to admit his words hit a nerve.
Indeed, her father had shielded her so well that he erased all traces of her from his life.
“If I’m not mistaken, you’re investigating your father Terry’s death, aren’t you?” Boss asked.
“It seems you know something about my father’s death,” Scarlett quickly picked up on his question.

Boss paused for a moment. This woman was far more perceptive than he had anticipated. She could infer so much from
just a question.
“If I said I didn’t know, would you believe me?” Boss asked.
“If you didn’t know, you wouldn’t have reached out to me, let alone made this call. Do you think I’d believe that?” Scarlett
countered.

With a light chuckle, Boss said, “You truly are Terry’s daughter–smart.”
“So, you’re calling me, but not to reveal the truth, right?” she asked.
“I wish I could tell you, but I’m just speculating, Ms. Adler. How about visiting the place where your father once stayed?
You might find the truth you’re looking for,” he suggested.

“You want me to go with you?” Scarlett asked.
“It’s an invitation…”
“You’re not suddenly feeling generous enough to help me find the truth, are you? And it’s certainly not because you had a
decent relationship with my father, right?” Scarlett’s words were sharp, leaving him no room for excuses.
Boss was momentarily at a loss for words.
After a pause, he replied, “Of course.”
“Why not just be upfront about your intentions? Show me you’re a man!”
Boss’s eyes narrowed. “Do you realize you’re provoking a man?”
“Doesn’t matter!” Scarlett was completely unfazed.
“And does it not matter which man it is?”
Scarlett immediately shot back, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing, just a bit envious of him,” Boss said.
“If you’re here to waste my time with nonsense, then you can hang up!”
“Wait!” he suddenly spoke up, pausing for a moment before continuing, “Alright, you want to know the reason? I can tell
you. I need a document from your father.”
Scarlett didn’t rush to respond. She was deep in thought.
She knew nothing about her father’s work, so she had no clue about this mysterious document he mentioned.
Just then, the airport announcement system began broadcasting boarding information.
“Attention passengers on flight EK360 to Syria, boarding is now open. Please proceed to gate 9…”
Boss was momentarily taken aback. “You’re at the airport? Are you heading to the Middle East?”
