Chapter 363 It felt like every part of his body was full of cunning.
The next day.
Morning.
Tara woke up because she was hungry.

She had stayed up too late the night before, and now her stomach was growling with hunger.
Checking the time, it was around six o’clock. She remembered First mentioning that breakfast at the estate was served
from 5:30 to 7:00.
With that in mind, Tara got up to find something to eat.
In the early September morning, the air was filled with a fresh scent.
Tara walked along the path for about ten minutes, and during this time, she realized something important.
Hotels were really convenient; everything you needed could be done in your room.
But here, every destination felt like a journey that could exhaust her.
Upon reaching the dining hall, Tara declined the help of the staff and picked up some food to find a place to sit.
As she stepped inside, she spotted Hugo.
He was sitting by the window, wearing a black shirt with the collar slightly open, and the sleeves rolled up to
three–quarters, showing off a smooth wrist line, looking every bit like royalty.
Watching him, Tara squinted slightly. She had to admit, Hugo’s looks and demeanor were indeed rare in this world.
He seemed like a favorite of the heavens.
But unfortunately…
While she was lost in thought, Hugo looked up, his gaze meeting hers with dark, inquisitive eyes. Tara

She quickly regained her composure and walked inside as if nothing had happened.

“Morning!” she greeted with a forced smile, finding a spot neither too close nor too far from him, and focused on her
breakfast.
Hugo watched her, his distant eyes flickering with a hint of something hidden. He lowered his gaze, eating leisurely.
“Taking the kids out yesterday must have been exhausting, huh?”
Tara paused, realizing he was speaking to her. She couldn’t quite grasp his intention. Surely, it wasn’t concern for her!
After a moment of thought, Tara looked up and replied earnestly, “Not really, it wasn’t tiring. The kids were well–behaved,
and I enjoyed spending time with them.”
Hugo ate with elegance, appearing casual and relaxed. Once he swallowed, he looked over at her. “Really? Where did you
all go?”
Though he seemed nonchalant, his eyes were filled with curiosity.
Tara’s eyes sparkled with understanding, “Mr. Hodges, your question seems to have a hidden meaning.”
Hugo maintained his patient demeanor, “Just curious, what place keeps you out so late?”
Tara squinted, silently grumbling to herself. This man always managed to appear extremely graceful, seemingly unhurried,
yet every word was probing.
I told you, Hugo Hodges might have a charming exterior, but underneath, he’s all cunning.
All his questions were just to make her slip up.
Even though Tara had coordinated her story with First and the others, her rebellious nature made her want to say
something different. She looked at him and gave a slight smile, “Why don’t you guess?”
Hugo wasn’t in a hurry, as if her response was exactly what he expected.
He continued eating, maintaining his usual elegant demeanor. “Did you hear about the shootout at the docks yesterday?”
He asked if she knew, not if she’d heard.

Talking to this man required constant vigilance.
Tara feigned confusion, “A shootout? What happened?”
Hugo glanced up, his eyes sweeping over her. “People on the Dark Web are this out of the loop?”
Tara’s red lips curled into a smile, “I came to Port City for a break, not to be on a mission. Why would I need to be so
informed?”

Whether Hugo believed her or not was unclear. He picked up a glass and took a sip, his calm eyes betraying nothing.
Seeing that he had fallen silent, Tara planned to find an opportunity to leave. But then, Hugo suddenly spoke up, “By the way, how did you come to know First and the others?”

Tara was speechless.
Was this man ever going to stop?
Taking a deep breath, she looked at him. “Mr. Hodges, you’ve been chatting with me about this and that all morning. Is
there something you’re trying to say, or is there a hidden meaning?”
Hugo gave a sly smile, his lips curling with a hint of mystery. “What do you think?”
“It’s just the two of us having breakfast. Your questions could easily be misunderstood. I don’t mind, but if Ms. Adler gets
the wrong idea, Mr. Hodges, it might be hard for you to explain.” Tara smiled, her eyes sharp.
She could pretend to be harmless because he was First’s dad, and she had to give him some respect, but that didn’t mean
she didn’t have a temper!
Hugo spoke softly, “Don’t worry, she won’t misunderstand.”
Tara narrowed her eyes. “Oh? Mr. Hodges, do you not understand women?”
Hugo replied, “I may not understand women in general, but I understand her well enough.”
“Oh? And why is that?”
“Because she knows exactly what type I like,” Hugo said quietly, his pale, refined face both distant and bold.
Tara squinted at him, trying to read his expression.
He hadn’t said a word, yet Tara felt like she was picking up all sorts of negative vibes from his gaze.
Frowning slightly, she couldn’t help but ask, “What do you mean by that?”
“What do you think?” Hugo replied, a mysterious smile playing on his lips.
Tara found herself at a loss for words.
As she pondered how to respond, Hugo finished his meal, set down his utensils, and elegantly dabbed his mouth with a napkin. Then he looked at her, “I’m done. Enjoy your meal.”

With that, he stood up and walked away.

Watching his retreating figure, Tara felt frustrated and could only mutter a few quiet curses under her breath.
Just then, Hugo turned around, startling Tara into silence. She looked at him, her face frozen, unsure of what expression
to wear.
Hugo looked at her, “By the way, Port City hasn’t been very safe lately. Some mercenaries are looking for someone. Be
careful when you take the kids out.”
“Thanks for the heads–up, I will!” Tara replied with a forced smile.
Hugo nodded slightly, said no more, and left.
As his figure disappeared from view, Tara clenched her fists in frustration.
Talking to him was less satisfying than a good fight.
He always spoke in riddles, full of hidden agendas, exhausting her to no end!
She barely touched her breakfast before her anger filled her up.
Just as Hugo left, First walked in, his steps graceful. He immediately noticed Tara’s fuming expression.
“What happened?” First asked, looking at her.
Seeing his face, so similar to Hugo’s, Tara narrowed her eyes slightly. “Do you have any idea how much I want to tear off
that fake, elegant expression of yours right now?”
