Second glanced at her, while Tara Green used the rearview mirror to observe First, whose face had suddenly changed, looking utterly confused.
“Why do you say that?” Second asked.
“After suffering such a loss, the people from Red Mark Base wouldn’t just leave without doing anything. There must be a reason, and Scarlett left during those two days…” First explained.
“Are you suggesting they took Scarlett?” Second asked. “But Scarlett has been in touch with you, hasn’t she?”
“There are many ways to take someone away. It doesn’t have to be a direct abduction. Besides, on Dad’s turf, they couldn’t do it openly. But if they used deception, that’s a different story,” First replied, his expression serious.
Second listened, finding some logic in First’s words.
Tara Green also listened, then asked, “So, what’s their purpose in taking Scarlett?”
First paused, furrowing his brow. Good question!
What was the purpose?
Could it be that Scarlett’s identity was exposed?
No!
Not necessarily.
While that possibility existed, it wasn’t likely.
First couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he felt a sense of urgency deep down.
Second pondered for a moment before speaking slowly, “Do you think they found out Scarlett is investigating her grandfather’s death, and that’s why they’re doing this? Or maybe it’s just plain revenge?”
“Revenge?” Tara Green frowned.
Second looked at her, “We intercepted the shipment based on Dad’s groundwork, but to the Red Mark Base folks, it was Dad who took their goods. So, they might be doing this to retaliate against him.”
“That reason makes sense… But wouldn’t it be simpler for the Red Mark Base people to just go after Scarlett directly?” Tara asked.
“Maybe they didn’t have the chance?”
“Do you really think those desperados would lack the opportunity?” Tara countered.
First and Second fell silent.
Even though they were in Port City, Hugo Hodges‘ territory, where chances were slim, it wasn’t impossible if someone really tried.
“Unless there’s something else they’re scheming…” Tara murmured, still contemplating the situation.
First and Second exchanged a nervous glance.

Could it really be because of that reason?
“Let’s not overthink it. See if you can reach Scarlett. We need to inform her about this,” Second suggested.
First nodded and tried calling Scarlett, but her phone was still set to block calls.
“Send her a message; she’ll definitely get it!” Second insisted.
First nodded in agreement.
Since Scarlett knew they were here, she wouldn’t feel at ease until they left. So, while she might not answer calls, she
would surely see a message.
With this in mind, First sent the collected information to Scarlett.
After sending the message, First stared at the phone screen, hoping for some response from Scarlett. But after a long wait, there was no reply.
First frowned.
“Still no response?” Second asked.
First shook his head.
“Scarlett is probably worried about dragging us into this, which is why she’s not contacting us,” Second reasoned.
“Scarlett is always like this, taking everything on herself,” First said softly, his words filled with concern.
“Yeah.”
“Well, you two are her treasures, aren’t you?” Tara, driving in front, chimed in.
First and Second both looked at her.
“What mother wouldn’t love her children? Protecting you is something she’d risk her life for,” Tara said quietly, a memory flashing through her mind.
In a pool of blood, a beautiful woman covered Tara’s eyes with her blood–stained hand. “Tara, you must live on. Remember, Mom loves you the most, always will… I won’t be there to protect you anymore, but I’ll find a way to watch over you. So, you have to be strong and keep living…”
The painful thing about memories is that they don’t fade with time; they become more profound, making the helplessness of the past clearer. Tara’s eyes grew moist.
She quickly grabbed a pair of sunglasses and put them on.
First and Second, sitting in the back, didn’t notice Tara’s change in demeanor.
After thinking seriously for a moment, he finally spoke, “What Scarlett can do for us, we can do for her too!”
Tara listened, a slight smile forming at the corners of her lips. “That’s why you all need to grow up quickly, get stronger,
and become more capable. That way, you can truly protect her!”
For the first time, First didn’t argue back. Instead, he nodded firmly.
The desire to become stronger was becoming deeply rooted in his mind.

The car sped down the road.
Soon, they arrived at the hotel.
As soon as the car was parked, Second turned to Tara. “Tara, I need your help with something.”
