Chapter 403 Scarlett is in danger!
On the way back, the three of them sat in silence.
Even though they had gathered some information, the current situation left them feeling unsettled.
Second leaned back in his seat, holding a star given to him by a child before they left.
First glanced over, took the star from Second’s hand, and forced a small smile. “This must be something important to him, keeping it so clean.”
Second gazed at it, as if he could see the child’s innocent smile through the star.
The atmosphere in the car was heavy and oppressive.
Tara Green looked at them through the rearview mirror, her red lips curving slightly. “What’s up? Why so down?”
First sighed, handing the star back to Second. “You already know.”
Tara chuckled, rarely seeing him so defeated. Just as she was about to speak, Second chimed in, “Our desires grow every day, thinking about how to make a mark in this world, while they struggle with the basics of survival.”
Seeing the two of them so empathetic, Tara kept one hand on the wheel, glancing around before speaking softly, “Once you’ve traveled the world and seen its many corners, you’ll understand that in every unexpected place, there are people struggling just to live. It’s reality, and it’s the way of the world.”
He hadn’t understood before, but now he did.
Second listened quietly, turning his head to look out the car window.
Outside, collapsed buildings and stretches of ruins lay scattered. The fallen earth, washed by time, seemed to whisper
tales of the beauty that once was…
First glanced at him, “Alright, Tara said this is just the tip of the iceberg. Are we really going to get lost in it every time we encounter something like this?”
“I know!” Second nodded.
“Anyway, we made some progress today,” First added.
Second listened and nodded again.
Seeing them regain their composure, Tara smiled slightly. Then, as if remembering something, she spoke up, “By the way, do you know what Terry does at Red Mark Base?” she suddenly asked.
First and Second exchanged a glance. First hesitated before saying, “Probably something like what I do…”
Tara was surprised, “Like you? A hacker?”
First nodded, “Probably.”
Tara paused, “Is he any good?”
“That, I’m not sure about,” First replied. “Back then, the internet wasn’t as developed as it is now. I only heard Scarlett mention it once. Apparently, her grandfather was quite skilled with computers, but I’ve never seen it myself.”

“Scarlett didn’t explicitly say it was a hacker, it’s just my guess,” First said.
Tara listened, nodding thoughtfully.
True.
When Terry Adler passed away, Scarlett was still quite young. Back then, the internet wasn’t as developed as it is now, and most people’s understanding of it was pretty limited.
Unless… someone was truly a genius!
But what surprised Tara was, what kind of family was this, producing such talented individuals?
If they all gathered together, wouldn’t it be explosive?
Thinking about it, Tara couldn’t help but ask, “So, does your talent come from your grandfather?” she asked. “Skipped a generation?”
First, “…”
Actually, it didn’t skip a generation.
It passed to Scarlett and then to him.
But he couldn’t really say that, so he hesitated, nodding slowly, “I guess so…‘
“I
Tara was excited, “What do you mean ‘guess so,‘ it definitely is!” she exclaimed, genuinely impressed. “I was wondering how you could be so skilled at your age, turns out it’s hereditary…”
Then, Tara suddenly remembered something, “What did your grandmother do?”
The question left both of them momentarily stunned.
First and Second exchanged glances, realizing neither had ever asked Scarlett Adler about this.
Seeing their expressions, Tara Green asked, “You really don’t know?”
First shook his head. “We only know that her grandparents died tragically. It’s always been a nightmare for Scarlett, so she rarely talks about it. We’ve never asked, not wanting to rub salt in her wounds.”
Talking about it, Tara suddenly realized she shouldn’t have seemed so eager.
Even if curiosity was natural, these events were devastating for the young Scarlett Adler.
With this in mind, Tara spoke up, “Sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just thinking, with your grandfather being so impressive, your grandmother must have been too. Maybe Second takes after her, given your family’s genes.‘
First glanced at Second, then smiled slightly. “Maybe he does!” he said, looking at Tara. “So, no need to apologize. I know you didn’t mean anything by it.”
Tara squinted at First, a slight smile playing on her lips. “So, what’s next? What are you guys planning?” she asked.
“I’m wondering, since Justin’s dad mentioned it, could Grandpa’s death be connected to Red Mark Base?” First questioned.
“If Justin’s dad is right, then Grandpa’s death wouldn’t be surprising at all.”
