Chapter 42
I started studying comics–digital, hand–drawn, anything I could get my hands on. Slowly, I began sketching my own stories on the tablet.
Eventually, borne out of the desire to share my stories, I secretly created a creator account on FeatherInk Comics–the largest web comic platform–under the name Longing Bird.
nt no one around me knew. I didn’t tell a soul.
my first year to third year in college, I became a fairly popular artist on the platform, with a decent following.
my fourth year, the overwhelming school workload forced me into an unplanned hiatus.
or how the tablet ended up under the cabinet… I frowned.
I was certain the last time I used it was during my third–year vacation. I always kept it together with my diary in the bed’s secret compartment.
But that day, I’d brought it out intending to draw secretly in the walk–in closet with it–and then Claire barged in.
In panic, I tossed the tablet somewhere–anywhere–so she wouldn’t see it.
And then… I forgot.
That must’ve been when those so–called ‘restraints‘ began to take action. Because after that day, I never thought of it again.
Laughing through the tears, I hugged the tablet to my chest, emotions I couldn’t even begin to describe swelling so fast I could hardly breathe.
Just this morning, I told Dean that finding my passion wouldn’t be easy.
Who would’ve thought… I never had to search for it.
It had always been here.
Waiting for me to come back. To rediscover it.
It took a while before I could gather myself, but once I did, I went straight to opening the FeatherInk Comics app.
The app had updated automatically with the WiFi, but it still required a login. Thankfully, the tablet had it saved and auto–filled everything.
The moment I logged in and entered the creator center… a flood of notifications hit me.
Comments. Likes. Gifts.

I ignored them to look at the list of my works–five in total.
Three completed. Two ongoing.
But the stats…
My eyes widened as I leaned closer.
They were staggering.
One million. Ten million. Thirty million views.
Was this… really my account?
Maybe I made a mistake?
With this thought, I double–checked the private profile. The real name was right. Everything matched.
But how? How did this happen?
When I said I was fairly popular before, I meant a few ten thousand views.
This… this was something else.
I clicked the red 99+ notifications icon, trying to find a way to make sense of what was going on.
Reader 1: I know you said you were taking a break, but isn’t it taking too long??? Please update The Heiress’s Come- back or I might lose my f*cking mind.
Reader 2: My dearest, beloved Longing Bird. Look–I’ve gifted you the most expensive tier gifts on the platform. So, please update Aphrodite’s Love. I’m literally on my knees right now.
Reader 3: Please. Just one chapter. Update just a single chapter.
Reader 4: Are you there???
And then:
NewUser xxx: Hello Longing Bird. I’m Gina, a Senior Licensing Manager from Star Media—a global entertainment company specializing in adapting web comics and original IP into animations and live–action. We’d love to discuss acquiring the IP rights to your comics. Please contact us at . We look forward to hearing from you.
Instead of clearing up my confusion, the comments only deepened it.
Why were my readers sounding like… members of a cult?
And that last message–an intellectual property rights acquisition?
To my works?

Chapter 42
All of a sudden, a thought struck me.
Email.
Maybe I’d find answers in my inbox.
With that, I minimized the app and opened the mail icon.
Another 99+ notification alert.
Most were from FeatherInk, and my editor–Freya.
I scrolled to the older ones and read them first.
