Did this guy even have any idea how to win a woman over?
“Got it,” I said smoothly to Freya, a casual smile on my face. “Sorry for interrupting. We’ll leave you to it now.”
Freya’s expression cased–maybe from my apology, or maybe because we were finally heading out.
Before leaving, I glanced at Lilith. “Call me when you’re done here. I’ll drive you home.”
Her lips pursed together as she met my gaze.
I knew she’d try to refuse, so I turned away before she could open her mouth and dragged Callum out the door.
LILITH
The talk with Freya went exceptionally well.
Just like I remembered, she was warm and accommodating, breaking things down into plain, bite–sized pieces I could actually understand.
From her, I finally grasped what Callum meant about acquiring the exclusive rights to my works—at least on the sur- face. Riding on the popularity of my comics, they wanted to secure the rights for animation and live–action adapta- tions.
Honestly, the idea alone made my pulse quicken.
But excitement aside, I didn’t say yes.
No matter how helpful Freya was, she worked for the company, and if push came to shove, she’d choose their inter- ests over mine. So before I truly made a decision, I’d need to dig deeper into IP rights and have the full picture.
She also took the time to explain what the “Creator of the Year” award was all about.
The event, which would be held at Raven Tower in a week’s time, was apparently a big deal–enough to draw some of
the industry’s biggest names.
As the newest billion–view holder, Freya was convinced the award was already mine. She even joked that all I had to do was show up and be spoon–fed the trophy.
Tempting as that sounded, I still hadn’t decided. Because I knew the moment I stepped onto that stage, any hope of anonymity would be gone.
Earlier, I’d told Freya not to mention my identity as a Caldwell to anyone, but ironically, accepting that award would

practically announce it for me.
I’d never underestimate netizens‘ curiosity or their ability to dig ten feet underneath a person’s background.
And despite all my convictions, I wasn’t sure I was ready to face the world with my new name.
With those thoughts still circling in my mind, I turned down Freya’s offer to walk me out and headed for the elevator.
Somewhere along the way, the idea of calling Dean had long slipped from my mind–not that I’d intended to in the first place.
So imagine my surprise when the elevator doors slid open into the lobby and I spotted him lounging in a chair, one leg casually crossed over the other and a hand lifted in a lazy wave.
“Why are you here?” I blurted as he rose to his feet, my fingers tightening instinctively around my bag strap.
He arched a brow, that familiar hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. “Taking precautions in case a certain some- one forgot to do as I told.”
His gaze swept over me, slow and deliberate, the corner of his mouth lifting into a faint smirk. “Seems I was right.”
LILITH
At his words, I rubbed my nose, heat from embarrassment creeping into my cheeks.
Truthfully, I’d forgotten all about it, too lost in my thoughts. But the way he said it made it sound deliberate, as if I’d ignored him on purpose.
But because that was indeed my plan, I couldn’t say anything to defend myself.
“Let’s go,” he said with a low chuckle.
Left with no choice, I fell in step beside him.
On the way out, I waved at Maggie at the front desk, and she returned it with an enthusiastic wave of her own.
Dean’s car was parked right outside. He opened the door for me, and I slid in without a word.
