Then the pieces fell into place.
Chapter 51
–
If they were both here, then Dean and Callum knew each other maybe even friends. So, Dean might have told him
about me.
Still… Dean and Callum?
One was like a carefree dandy. The other, cold and composed as a stone statue.
How could those two possibly be friends?
DEAN
Meeting Lilith at Raven Tower was an unexpected surprise.
But no matter how wild my imagination ran, I never would have guessed she was the person I’d been looking for.
Lilith was Longing Bird? Absurd.
Especially considering that just yesterday, she’d been lamenting how hard it was to figure out her passion–what she was good at.
When she said that, she’d seemed like any fresh college graduate: wide–eyed, clueless and a little anxious about the future.
Yet now, one day later, she was suddenly a popular webcomic artist?
I didn’t want to doubt her… but something didn’t add up.
“Let’s sit and talk.” Freya’s voice snapped me from my thoughts. She gestured for Lilith to take the sofa, then settled beside her.
I also hadn’t expected the “editor” Callum mentioned to turn out to be Freya.
What an uncanny coincidence.
Stabilizing my thoughts, I followed and took the sofa opposite them, head bent in thought. Callum claimed the single chair at the head of the arrangement.
Suddenly, I felt a prickling sensation on my skin, making me glance up–Lilith was watching me, her brows faintly drawn in question.
Her eyes were clear. No guilt. No evasion. They met mine with frankness.
My fingers curled against my knee.

Chapter 51
Had I misunderstood her yesterday?
When she said she couldn’t find her passion… had she meant that being a comic artist wasn’t it?
But…
My brows knit together.
I wasn’t an expert, but I’d seen enough of Longing Bird’s work and others, to know.
The fluid strokes, the deliberate lines, the depth in those layered colors…
Whoever created them didn’t just know their craft, they loved it.
So what was really going on here?
“So you’re a Caldwell,” Freya said, cutting off my train of thought.

I looked up to see her eyes lighting up with curiosity as she spoke to Lilith. “I knew your real name was Lilith Cald- well, but I never connected it to the Caldwells. Who’d expect a random creator on our platform to turn out to be an heiress in disguise?”
“It’s not as exaggerated as you make it sound,” Lilith replied, her tone helpless.
“Only you would think that,” Freya chuckled. “I bet your fans will go wild when they find out.”
“You have to keep it secret,” Lilith said quickly. “They can’t know.”
Freya mimicked zipping her lips. “Don’t worry. I was joking. If you don’t want it out, I won’t say a word.”
Then she seemed to remember we were here, and turned toward us. “You both heard that, right? Her identity stays se- cret.”
Callum gave her a flat look that all but said her warning was unnecessary.
Catching it, Freya rolled her eyes before gesturing toward Lilith. “Didn’t you say you wanted to meet her? Why so quiet now? Make it quick–I still have a lot to go over with her.”
Ignoring her, Callum sent me a pointed glance: Didn’t you want to meet her? Why aren’t you saying anything?
I shook my head slightly: Later. I need to figure something out first.
In business, I never made a move without knowing the terrain. So, until I understood the link between Lilith and Longing Bird, my plans would have to be shelvef to the time being.
Callum looked confused, but I couldn’t explain with others in the room.
After giving me a pointed look, he turned back to Freya. “Have you talked to her about acquiring the exclusive rights to her work?”
