Chapter 67

I smirked down at her.

“Kidnapping you and forcing you to listen to my explanation.”

I swear her glare could have burned me alive.

“Explain what? That you’re some big-shot CEO who assumed there was no need for me to know your prestigious identity?”

“No,” I ignored the sarcasm in her voice and replied. “That I never wanted to hide it from you. I just never found the right moment to bring it up. Think about it-wouldn’t blurting it out without reason sound like I’m showing off? Like I’m some attention-seeking braggart?”

Her movements stilled at my words, and for a fleeting second, her features softened-but soon, the stubborn tilt of her chin returned.

“And that makes it excusable?”

“Come inside with me, Elise.” My tone lowered as I met her gaze head-on. “Let me explain everything. And if, after hearing me out, you still want nothing to do with me… I’ll stay out of your life from then on.’

At my words, her body stiffened in my arms, and I couldn’t help feel a spark of quiet joy.

As the saying goes: the body doesn’t lie.

And her body language just now? That was proof that she did care.

Her lips pressed into a tight line.

“Put me down.”

From her tone, I knew she’d relented, so I obeyed, setting her gently on her feet.

Without a word, she strode toward the door.

I smiled faintly and followed.

A few minutes later, I walked out from the kitchen and returned to the living room carrying

two mugs.

I set one in front of her and kept the other for myself before taking a scat.

Lilith didn’t even glance at the coffee. She kept her arms folded tightly across her chest, her gaze locked on me.

I exhaled and leaned forward, my elbows resting on my knees.

“Let me start by reintroducing myself.”

Her eyes flickered briefly, and I continued in a steady voice.

“I’m Dean Callahan. I own Astral Studios and I’m also the largest investor in Raven Entertainment.”

My gaze held hers. “Believe me, I never meant to keep any of this from you. I wanted to tell you. I just… never found the right moment to say it without sounding like I was flaunting.”

Her brows furrowed together, annoyance flashing in her eyes.

“And why the hell would you think I’d see it that way? Am I that shallow to you?”

“You’re not even thirty and you’ve accomplished so much already,” she went on, almost snapping. “If anything, I would’ve been genuinely impressed.”

As soon as the words left her lips, embarrassment flickered across her face as if she just realized what she’d blurted out.

Her unintentional praise caught me off guard, and I couldn’t help the small smile tugging at my lips.

“Thanks for the compliment,” I teased lightly.

Her glare returned in an instant, which only made me want to smile more.

In the next moment, my tone turned serious as I continued.

“Still, I owe you an apology-for not telling you sooner, and for letting you hear it from Callum instead. And if I’m being honest…” My voice lowered slightly. “I was afraid that once you knew, you’d see me differently. That you’d… pull away.”

Her arms loosened, slowly uncrossing until it rested at her sides.

Her next words came softer, almost hesitant.

“Why would it even matter to you how I see you, or what I think of you?”

I met her gaze fully, my voice unflinching and solemn.

“You know it matters, Elise. More than you think. More than it should.”

Instantly, the air between us shifted-charged, electric, expectant.

All of a sudden, I didn’t feel like playing the slow, careful game anymore.

So I stood and crossed over to where she sat, looking down at her, my voice dropping to a low rasp.
