Chapter 77
“Yes.” Relief touched her voice. “I was about to suggest that too. Give me a minute, I’ll set up my laptop and call you back.”
“I’ll do the same here.”
Afterwards, we ended the call, and I set my phone on the table–only to find Callum staring at me, waggling his brows.
“Elise-” he crooned in a disgustingly sweet tone. “Not even dating yet, and there’s already a pet name? I didn’t know you had it in you, buddy.”
Without a word, I stretched out my leg and kicked his knee.
He tried to dodge, but failed.
As he winced in pain, I said with a sneer.
“If only you spent half as much effort on your own love life as you do mocking mine.”
“Oh, right. Freya probably doesn’t even know you like her yet,” I added.
That struck home.
He jumped up as if I’d stepped on his tail. “I. Like. Her? Don’t go around spouting nonsense, Dean. I’m warning you.”
I gave him a flat look. “Sure. Keep denying it. But let me give you some advice–get your act together before it’s too late. Or one day, you’ll be the one crying to me after she sends you a wedding invitation.‘
”
That froze him where he stood, his face stiffening.
Then, in a low voice that sounded ground through his teeth, he asked:
“She’s dating someone?”
I almost said “of course not.” But I swallowed the words.
If I reassured him, he’d never own up to his feelings and just keep hiding behind denial, playing childish games like he always had.

Chapter 77
So instead. I said smoothly, “Not sure. But she did mention she met someone interesting recently”
His expression went cold.

He sank back into his seat, his voice taut. “What do you know about him? Age? Occupation? How they met?”
I rolled my eyes. “What do you expect me to do, interrogate her? Next you’ll say you want his family history going back three generations.”
He actually considered it. “That’s not a bad idea. That way we can check for criminal ties and records.”
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
He was hopeless. Completely so.
Finally, I sighed. “Why don’t you just ask her yourself? She’s always been closer to you. Maybe she’ll tell you.”
He didn’t respond. I hadn’t expected him to.
So I let it drop, grabbed a spare laptop from his desk, and started setting up the call with Lilith.
LILITH
The video call with Dean and Callum went better than I could’ve hoped.
In the end, we agreed on a simple three–pronged strategy to deal with Brandon.
First, destroy his carefully polished “perfect gentleman” image. In the files Langston sent, there was a trove of dirt on his so–called ‘charity projects.‘
To tell the truth, this used to be one of the things I admired most about his. So after we married in my previous life, I even threw myself into helping out with those projects.
But the truth?
Half of those “charities” were nothing more than shell fronts. Donations meant for orphans, disaster victims, and the vulnerable had been siphoned directly into his private accounts.
Just thinking about how I’d once helped promote those sham projects made my stomach churn. Yet alongside the disgust came a searing indignation. I’d make sure he could no longer deceive anyone with that disgusting mask of his.
