Contrary to what I’d imagined, reading such comments denouncing Brandon didn’t bring me any
satisfaction.
With a heavy heart. I left the article and went over to Brandon’s latest post–the long, self- righteous one accusing Dean and me.
The comments there had also begun flooding with curses and venom.
Netizen X: You evil, disgusting capitalist! I hope you get your comeuppance soon!
Netizen XX: That poor man was only trying to earn a living, but he ended up paying with his life. You wealthy people really don’t treat ordinary citizens like humans.
Netizen XXX: Just die! Pay with your life too, scum!
Of course, a few still defended him, saying this was just an article, that nothing was concrete, that perhaps he hadn’t even known what was happening on–site.
Those words made me laugh out of anger. How could anyone look the truth in the eye, and still type such nonsense?
Some people would really throw away their conscience just to defend someone they barely know online.
For a moment, I considered sharing the article to my social media to escalate it, but then remembered Dean and Callum’s warning.
Unless it was absolutely necessary, I wasn’t to involve myself in this public opinion battle. That way, no one would have ammunition to attack me.
They knew better, so I agreed.
Which meant I could only wait and observe.
But I had a feeling I wouldn’t be waiting long–if I wasn’t wrong, Dean and Callum would use the momentum of this article to put our plan into action.
By doing so, they’d achieve maximum effect with minimal effort.
Thinking of this, I sneered and exited the app.

This is the first domino. Brandon. Your fall has begun, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.
I shut my laptop. picked up my phone, and stood from the vanity table to head downstairs and continue organizing.
CLAIRE
I paced the living room restlessly, my eyes darting to the door every few seconds.
Finally, just as I was about to lose my mind, the keypad beeped and the door unlocked.
“Why did it take you so long?” I snapped the moment Brandon stepped inside, changing into his slippers without even glancing at me.
His expression was equally sour. “I was at work–in a meeting. I came home as fast as I could after I saw your message.‘
“Now explain what you meant by saying Lilith moved out.”
I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes at him, my annoyance mounting at the superiority in his tone. “What else do you think it could mean? The literal meaning, of course.”
He dropped onto the couch, his gaze sharp. “Explain properly. Lilith has lived under that roof for over twenty years. Even when her peers moved out of their parents‘ homes to be independent, she stayed. So tell me–how can she suddenly decide to leave?”
He doesn’t believe me. And I didn’t blame him since I almost didn’t believe it myself.
Lilith Caldwell moving out before marriage? Impossible.
Her parents, especially Aunt Evelyn, would never allow it.
But reality didn’t care what we believed.
I sat across from him and said, “This morning I went to the Caldwell mansion and she wasn’t home. At first I thought she’d gone out, but Uncle Theo told me she’d moved.”
I scoffed at the memory. “Moved out? Those words and Lilith never belonged in the same sentence. So of course, I didn’t believe him. I called Aunt Evelyn.”
I didn’t mention I’d tried Lilith calling too, but since she still hadn’t unblocked me, my calls didn’t go through.

Brandon leaned forward. “And what did her mom say?”

*After I pressed her, she admitted Lilith left home yesterday morning–after they left for work. She even blocked their numbers. They only managed to reach her using Uncle Theo’s phone.”
His frown deepened. “So did they convince her to come back?”
