Hallie stood at the doorway of the studio, looking like a sheltered girl who’d barely seen the real world. It was already eight or nine in the evening when she came over to shoot a lingerie ad.

This was a big–name, globally renowned luxury lingerie brand. Hallie still couldn’t believe she was actually going to be their spokesperson. The staff ushered her into the back room to get changed.

Once she was stripped bare, the telltale bruises and love bites Jonathan had left on her just hours earlier were clearly visible on her skin.

One of the staff complained, “How are we supposed to shoot with her like this? This gig was supposed to go to Sloane, but now we’re stuck with some newbie–and not even a professional one at that.

“She must have gotten this by sleeping with the boss. In the end, it’s we workers who suffer.”

Outside the changing room, a few people gossiped in low voices.

Hallie wished she could disappear into thin air. She was grateful that no one here knew her. She took a deep breath, slipped on her jacket, and strode out of the changing room.

She said, “I’m here because of Elias, and the client already approved me. So you need to show me some respect.” She set her jaw and tried her best to look fierce–even if deep down, she was still trembling inside.

The staff knew Hallie had backing and the looks to match–she could easily become a star overnight. In a place where everyone sized up the menu before serving, no one dared truly offend her; apologies came instantly.

Hallie breathed a sigh of relief, surprised at just how powerful Elias’s connections really were. If she’d dared to drop Jonathan’s name, she was sure everyone here would be falling over themselves to please her.

But she didn’t have the guts to do that. After all, everyone in this place used to be part of Sloane’s crew. If Sloane ever found out she was hanging around Jonathan, Hallie figured she’d be dead meat.

Hallie softened her voice and said, “I’m only eighteen, so acting all mature doesn’t really fit me. Why not do a young girls‘ lingerie collection instead?

“As for the marks, we can just use dramatic makeup–make it bold and expressive, to capture that vibe of a teenage girl eager to grow up and find her own transformation.”

The staff liked her suggestion and quickly went with it.

Standing under the harsh spotlight, Hallie felt every dull inch of her skin lit up for the whole world to see. On the day of the SAT, she stepped into the world of showbiz.

Hallie thought to herself, ‘Maybe my life can reach a whole new level this way. I must grab this chance and never let go!

Edith got swept up by Vincent and her four younger brothers into the celebrations–no matter what the scores said, today was all about having fun.

“Let’s go to the bar,” Zachary shouted, practically bouncing with excitement. He’d snuck into a bar with his friends before, but always felt totally on edge the whole time. Now he finally had the chance to go openly and without hiding.

Joseph asked, “Am I allowed to go to the bar too?”

Edith rubbed her forehead, sighing as she took Shaun’s hand. She said, “Zachary, I’m really craving seafood boil tonight. Are you really going to the bar alone?”

Zachary switched gears immediately. He said, “Alright, seafood boil it is. But after I finish my SSATs, I’m totally hitting the bar–but only if Edith tags along.”

Vincent said firmly, “It’s best not to go to bars if you’re underage.”

Cedric nodded and said, “Bars can be pretty chaotic. Not the best place for you guys, honestly.”

Zachary instantly clammed up, not daring to say another word.

The group had just started heading toward a seafood boil spot when Marcus showed up.

Joseph blurted out, “Look, it’s Dodo.”

Vincent shot him a glare and said, “What are you talking about? That’s Mr. Larson.”

Joseph shrank back, biting his tongue. He knew Marcus and Dodo were the same, but since Edith insisted it stay a secret, he didn’t dare say another word.

Marcus came over with a courteous nod. He said, “Well, fancy running into you, Mr. Lovett. I happen to have some business I’d like to discuss. Mind if I ask where you’re headed?”

Vincent was honestly surprised, not quite sure how to react.

The Lovett and Larson families used to be tight, but ever since Melinda passed, things just drifted apart–no more business, no more connections.

Marcus was the guy handling all the Larson family’s stuff in Bonrea, and to be real, Vincent didn’t see what they could have to talk about. But he wasn’t about to just send Marcus packing.

Vincent almost suggested the kids head off for a seafood boil while he handled business on his own, but he stopped himself. He thought, “That would just make it look like I’m putting work ahead of family again.

So he flashed a friendly smile and said, “Mr. Larson, if you’re cool with it, why don’t you join us for some seafood boil? If not, we can always catch up tomorrow.”

Marcus was more than happy to accept. Honestly, he’d been worried Vincent wouldn’t bring it up–after all, it would’ve been a little awkward if he’d had to suggest it himself.

His eyes drifted over to Edith, standing there all sweet and proper with her brothers, and a faint, amused

Marcus raised the bag with a grin and said, “Zachary, Joseph–got something special for you guys.”

Zachary dashed over like an excited puppy. He exclaimed, “It’s really a jersey. Dodo, you’re seriously awesome

Joseph got handed a gaming console, decked out just for Starlight King, a beta account, and all. He said, “Dodo, no joke, from today onward, you’re my absolute best buddy.”

Marcus’s mood soured. He’d picked out gifts tailored just for them, yet they still called him “Dodo“-so casually, as if it were the most ordinary name on earth. Their ease left him speechless; he couldn’t even muster a comeback.

Vincent let out a dry laugh and said, “Guess I never realized you were so close with my boys, Mr. Larson. They’re still just kids and don’t really know much about manners yet–hope they didn’t offend you.”

Marcus said mildly, “Zachary and Joseph are quite adorable.” Secretly, he shot them a knife–sharp glare.
