The seafood boil restaurant was buzzing with energy, filled with the lively chatter of the crowd.

Edith and her group took a window seat. While Julian and his assistant sat at a couple of tables further to their left.

Julian wore glasses, his face giving nothing away, yet the air of authority around him was unmistakable.

His assistant reported, Mr. Quinn, this is all we could dig upsome records from Ms. Melinda Quinn’s time at Sunspire. As he spoke, he handed over some pictures.

The pictures showed Melindamidtolate twenties, maybe early thirtieswith sparkling eyes, a flawless smile, and pure joy written across her face.

It was a news shot from a marathon held in Sunspire ten years ago. Melinda had finished third. The press captured her moment on camera, preserving that beaming smile for the record.

Julian took off his glasses and rubbed the corners of his eyes, a sharp sting gathering there. He thought, Melinda vanished twenty years ago, yet she’d been living in Sunspire the whole time without anyone noticing

After Melinda disappeared, Julian had turned the world upside down looking for her, searched every possible lead and alleyway. He’d once feared the worstthat she’d met some terrible fate.

Julian thought, Thank God, after all these years, all those sleepless nights, she’s still alive. This is the damn best news I’ve had in twenty years. Nothing else even comes close.

Julian said, Sunspire isn’t a big place. We’ll dig up every inch if we have towe’re going to find her.

Back then, he’d been searching blindly everywhere, most of his time and effort spent looking overseas, sending people to every country he could think of. He never imagined Melinda was here in such a small city

all this time.

Julian thought, But if she’s alive, why hasn’t she ever come home? Well, I will find out once I find her.’ He carefully put the photos away, took a few bites of his food, and stood up to leave.

As he got up, Julian’s gaze swept over the crowdall of a sudden, his eyes locked onto Edith, sitting by the window.

Before he could think, he lunged toward her in a flash, sending his chair clattering to the ground with the force of his movement. In the blink of an eye, he was standing right beside her table.

Edith and her group were deep in lively conversation when, out of nowhere, Julian barged in and interrupted

their fun.

Vincent sprang to his feet by reflex, immediately putting himself between the kids and the newcomer.

Marcus stood up as well, his eyes calm and cool. He greeted, Mr. Quinn, fancy seeing you here.

Julian started to calm down. He thought, God, I must be out of my mind, thinking that girl is Melinda. She’s

the spitting image of Melinda, but after twenty years, Melinda would be olderthere’s no way she could still look like that.

Julian pulled his gaze away from Edith, reached out to Marcus, and said, Marcus, I have to say, seeing someone as distinguished as you enjoying seafood boil caught me off guard.

Saw you here and figured I’d stop by and say hi. You guys go aheadI’ll take my leave.” With that, he shook Marcus’s hand and headed out of the restaurant.

Joseph blinked in confusion. He muttered, Didn’t that guy look a bit familiar?

Zachary frowned and said, Did anyone else notice? Shaun is the spitting image of that guy from the side.”

Cedric spoke up calmly, Don’t be ridiculous. Just focus on your food.

After that little interruption, the group went back to their meal.

While eating, Vincent and Marcus finalized the acquisition plan for the beauty salon, and the group headed straight back.

After dropping Edith off, Marcus turned to his men and ordered, Look into what’s going on with Julian Quinn.

Marcus was certain that Julian had shown up earlier because of Edith. He grumbled inwardly, Edith is just too gorgeous for her own good, even that old fox Julian can’t take his eyes off her.

If I remember right, Julian’s already got a wife. How can he be married and still checking out other women like that? Doesn’t he care about his own family at all?

If Edith ever became my wife, I’d never look at another woman again. My eyes would only ever have room

for her.

Mr. Larson, why’s your face all red?Kane asked, curiosity written all over his face as he hovered nearby.

He thought, Normally, Mr. Larson only gets flustered when Ms. Lovett is around. But she’s already gone homewhy does he look like he’s been sitting right next to a hot stove?

Marcus shot him a sharp look and snapped, Is that really any of your business?

Forgive me for speaking out of turn,Kane replied, not daring to look at Marcus again.

Edith finally got to sleep in for oncethe first day after the SATS, she didn’t even crawl out of bed until nearly noon. She instinctively grabbed her phone, unlocked it, and found a message from Kane waiting for her.

Kane texted: [Ms. Lovett, I’m seriously losing it over here. Are you psychic or something? You just blew my mind. I can’t believe this.

[If only we’d snagged that entire plot back thenour company would be rolling in cash, worth at least five times what it is today.]

Edith got swept up by Vincent and her four younger brothers into the celebrationsno matter what the scores said, today was all about having fun.

Let’s go to the bar,Zachary shouted, practically bouncing with excitement. He’d snuck into a bar with his friends before, but always felt totally on edge the whole time. Now he finally had the chance to go openly and without hiding.

Joseph asked, Am I allowed to go to the bar too?

Edith rubbed her forehead, sighing as she took Shaun’s hand. She said, Zachary, I’m really craving seafood boil tonight. Are you really going to the bar alone?

Zachary switched gears immediately. He said, Alright, seafood boil it is. But after I finish my SSATS, I’m totally hitting the barbut only if Edith tags along.”

Vincent said firmly, It’s best not to go to bars if you’re underage.”

Cedric nodded and said, Bars can be pretty chaotic. Not the best place for you guys, honestly.

Zachary instantly clammed up, not daring to say another word.

The group had just started heading toward a seafood boil spot when Marcus showed up.

Joseph blurted out, Look, it’s Dodo.

Vincent shot him a glare and said, What are you talking about? That’s Mr. Larson.

Joseph shrank back, biting his tongue. He knew Marcus and Dodo were the same, but since Edith insisted it stay a secret, he didn’t dare say another word.

Marcus came over with a courteous nod. He said, Well, fancy running into you, Mr. Lovett. I happen to have some business I’d like to discuss. Mind if I ask where you’re headed?

Vincent was honestly surprised, not quite sure how to react.

The Lovett and Larson families used to be tight, but ever since Melinda passed, things just drifted apartno more business, no more connections.

Marcus was the guy handling all the Larson family’s stuff in Bonrea, and to be real, Vincent didn’t see what they could have to talk about. But he wasn’t about to just send Marcus packing.

Vincent almost suggested the kids head off for a seafood boil while he handled business on his own, but he stopped himself. He thought, That would just make it look like I’m putting work ahead of family again!

So he flashed a friendly smile and said, Mr. Larson, if you’re cool with it, why don’t you join us for some seafood boil? If not, we can always catch up tomorrow.

Marcus was more than happy to accept. Honestly, he’d been worried Vincent wouldn’t bring it upafter all, it would’ve been a little awkward if he’d had to suggest it himself.

His eyes drifted over to Edith, standing there all sweet and proper with her brothers, and a faint, amused

smile played at the corner of his mouth.

Marcus raised the bag with a grin and said, Zachary, Josephgot something special for you guys.”
