Revenge Wears My Ring novel Chapter 9

That afternoon, Gwyneth returned to the office as usual.

The moment she stepped inside, she caught the faintest trace of women’s perfume lingering in the air.

Julian sat at his desk in a sharp suit, his handsome face tinged with curiosity. “What’s going on with you today? You skipped the engagement party, and you didn’t answer your phone.”

Gwyneth fixed her gaze on his accusatory expression. She dug her nails into her palm, grounding herself with the sharp pain as she struggled to suppress the hatred simmering inside her.

“I had a terrible bout of stomach pain last night and ended up in the hospital,” she replied coolly. “Forgot my phone, just got discharged.”

Julian studied her for a moment, his eyes narrowing as he took in her pale, tired face, clearly unconvinced.

Something felt different about Gwyneth today. Was she being distant because she was sick and exhausted?

That had to be it. She’d been hopelessly devoted to him for years. There was no way she could suddenly fall out of love.

His stern expression softened a little, concern coloring his tone. “That sounds serious. Are you okay? Will it affect the project we’re working on?”

Gwyneth turned to look at him, her clear and frosty eyes seeming to see right through him.

If this had happened before, Julian’s concern would have left her completely moved.

But now, with her mind clear, she could finally see the truth in his words—his concern for her health was just a façade. What he really cared about was the company.

“It’s fine,” she said. “A couple days of rest and some medication, I’ll be back to normal. But the engagement party will need to be postponed.”

Julian visibly relaxed. “Then we’ll reschedule the party. Just focus on getting better and closing this deal.”

Lowering her eyes, Gwyneth calmly organized the files on his desk. Her voice was soft and agreeable. “Alright, whatever you say. But could you apologize to your family for me? I’ll make it up to them next time.”

She had to keep playing the part of the devoted fiancée until her plans were ready. If she exposed herself too soon, it would only tip him off.

But if that was what he wanted most, she certainly wasn’t going to let him have it so easily.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Gwyneth finished straightening the files and grabbed a few proposal folders before heading out.

Just as she was leaving, a soft noise caught her attention from the lounge next to the CEO’s office. The door was half open; Gwyneth glanced inside and spotted a familiar nude-colored high heel lying beside the sofa.

Instantly, she recognized it as Queenie’s shoe.

The hatred inside her only burned hotter.

After Gwyneth left, Julian stepped into the lounge. A warm, soft embrace greeted him immediately.

Queenie leaned into Julian’s chest, her alluring eyes clouded with anxiety. “Julian, why didn’t she come to the engagement party? Do you think she’s found out about us?”
