Alicia took a deep breath and leaned on the windowsill, watching as Clayton’s car rolled slowly into the driveway.
“Jade’s been waiting outside Clayton’s house all morning,” Felix murmured behind her. “Now that people inside White Corporation are watching, Jade isn’t just competing against you in this design contest—she’s after Clayton, too.”
Alicia had already told Felix to keep tabs on Jade, not letting a single move go unnoticed.
She reached into a small tin, scattering seeds across the windowsill. As a pair of sparrows fluttered down to peck at them, Alicia smiled. “Jade’s always been arrogant—but you know, it’s just a mask for her insecurity. Deep down, she’s never been confident. She’s spent years in Italy keeping an eye on me, and the more she’s seen what I can do, the more threatened she’s felt. That’s why I know, for this competition, she won’t dare use her own designs. She’s going to steal mine. She’ll use the sketches Chloe smuggled from Italy, just to make sure she beats me.”
If Jade really went through with it, Alicia would seize the chance to ruin her for good—to make sure Jade could never show her face in the design world again.
She wanted Jade’s fall to be absolute—no second chances.
Felix watched Alicia, taking in her calm, steely gaze. So much for the rumors that Alicia was a delicate little rabbit. When she made a move, it was with deadly precision.
He remembered how, back in college, he’d never understood why Alicia never fought back against Mira Lawson and her clique. It was only later Felix realized that Alicia was a master of survival. She never lashed out rashly—not because she was timid, but because she knew exactly where she stood. She understood that fighting back at the wrong time would only leave her worse off.
So she endured. She outlasted them.
Someone who could swallow years of mistreatment without breaking—when she finally struck back, she’d do it harder than anyone.
“When Jade has nowhere left to go in the design world, she’ll cling to that man as her last hope...” Alicia’s eyes followed Clayton as he stepped out of the car, her gaze chilling.
Brandon had been responsible for her parents’ deaths. Jade had profited from it. Alicia wasn’t about to let either of them off the hook.
She’d be patient.
