"I did. Not long after the Whites adopted you, she was adopted by an ordinary couple. But that's not the whole story. Her name now is Clara Edwards. She's the eldest daughter of the Edwards family—Connor and Pamela's older sister."
As Tyrone spoke, an almost imperceptible chill flickered in Clayton’s eyes. "You said she was adopted by an ordinary couple. How did she end up as the eldest daughter of the Edwards family?" He was thinking of the legends surrounding the Edwards family's eldest daughter—the mysterious heir who had never once made a public appearance.
"That's where it gets strange," Tyrone continued. "Twenty years ago, less than six months after they adopted her, Susanna's adoptive parents were both killed in a car accident. Then, a few years after that, the orphanage burned down, destroying all of her records."
Every trace of her past was wiped clean. It took them this long to connect the dots and confirm that Susanna is Clara Edwards. The Edwards family had concealed her identity for years, keeping their supposed eldest daughter out of the public eye. With everything now pointing back to them, their motives were undeniable.
"So the Edwards family is finally showing their hand," Clayton said with a cold smile.
Everyone assumed he was searching for Susanna out of some misplaced childhood affection. The truth was far darker. When his parents died, Clayton hadn't been sent to the orphanage alone; he had a younger brother, his only remaining family.
The day the orphanage director announced that Reginald White was coming to adopt a child, she told them all to be on their best behavior. To be chosen by one of Seaview City's four great families was a chance to escape their grim reality, a life where they would never worry about being abandoned again.
