Natalia refused to believe Clayton could ever truly fall in love with Alicia. In her mind, this was all about repaying a debt of gratitude to Reginald. She had even convinced herself that Clayton, bound by honor, would never truly accept Alicia even if he married her.
But eating from her fork... that signaled he was, at the very least, physically capable of accepting her closeness, her intimacy. And that sent Natalia into a full-blown panic.
The moment she hung up, Natalia dialed Jade. "He's getting too close to her," she said, her voice tight with urgency. "If they keep living together, they're going to develop real feelings. You need to do something. You said you had a plan—where is it?"
Jade’s tone was just as grim. "I told you," she hissed. "That woman's specialty is wrapping men around her finger. First Vincent Lawson, then Tyrone, and now Clayton!"
"Once they're married, it's over for us," Natalia shot back. "The second she solidifies her power at White Corporation, you and your father will never get back in."
Jade fell silent, fully grasping the stakes. "I have one more card to play," she said finally.
Natalia’s interest was piqued.
"For years, Clayton has been looking for two people. We all know about Nicole White, but he's also been secretly searching for another woman. Her name is Susanna. She was a friend of his from the Harborview Orphanage, before Reginald adopted him at age nine. She must have been very important to him."
Jade knew she could never get through to Clayton herself; the memory of how she used to bully him was a wall between them. The only way to manipulate him was through someone he genuinely cared about.
"We find this Susanna," Jade said, her voice low and cold. "If she's cooperative, we use her against him. If she's not... then we create a Susanna who is."
Natalia's eyes narrowed. She understood perfectly. It wasn't the first time they'd resorted to such tactics.
"Then what are you waiting for?" Natalia snapped, her patience wearing thin. "Harboridge City isn't that big. How hard can it be to find a woman from an orphanage?"
