To ease her worries, Sterling added, “All the gifts are voluntarily given in the name of your birthday, with all the proper paperwork completed. The law is completely on your side.”
Claudia never imagined he could be so thoughtful. She automatically ignored the word “wife,” and put on a troubled expression. “Uh… you know me–if money’s lying there, I can’t just leave
it.”
Sterling chuckled. “You picked me up, didn’t you? And you’re worried about pocketing a little extra?”
She had to admit that made sense.
It was mainly his attitude of “you have to take it no matter what” that made her feel both infuriated and endearing.
As Claudia hesitated, a shadow flickered inside the villa.
In the next moment, a huge dog leapt from the gate straight at her. Sterling stepped in behind her just in time, shielding her and preventing her from falling.
Since she was hugged from behind, she instinctively wrapped her arms around the creature.
When she finally saw what it was, her eyes lit up. “Is this another gift for me to pick up?”
Her joy was a hundred times brighter than when she first saw the villa.
Sterling glanced down at the dog and fell silent.
Sterling had done everything to perfection. Not only was the property title already in her name, but every detail inside–from furniture to daily necessities—had been prepared so the place was ready to live in.
He didn’t touch anything from Claudia’s apartment. Instead, he ordered new clothes to be delivered here.
That very night, they stayed in the new house. Tomorrow, Sterling would accompany her to retrieve important documents at her place.
For now, he had no intention of letting her move back into her apartment.
By tomorrow, word of their relationship would spread. This villa offered far better security.
Chapter 104 A Triangle Is Steadier
Thinking of the rats lurking in the shadows, Sterling’s eyes darkened.
Finished
Claudia soon learned that the dog wasn’t actually a gift from Sterling. Since its owner was now staying under her roof, it practically belonged to her anyway.
It wasn’t until she stepped inside and took a closer look that she recognized it. It was the same German Shepherd that had lunged at her the very first time she met Sterling.
Because Daron had been pestering to see him, and since Sterling would be living here for a while, Clint had thoughtfully brought the dog along during the move.
He claimed that a triangle is steadier, and said that having a child would help strengthen the parents‘ relationship.
In truth, the dog was fierce and domineering. Without Sterling around, he acted like a tyrant, wrecking everything in his path. Walking him was a daily nightmare.
But since he was Satan’s pet, none of the servants dared harm him. They tiptoed around, doing their best to serve him.
Everyone usually went out of their way to avoid him, keeping any contact to a minimum. Yet even then, he would occasionally lash out, leaving people with unspoken grievances.
The servants had begged Clint for help. He had no choice but to tentatively bring the mischievous dog over to meet his smitten owner.
“Daron, apple.”
Claudia leaned back comfortably on the couch, commanding the dog to fetch her fruit.
True to being Sterling’s pet, Daron was frighteningly smart. Claudia burst into laughter at his goofy yet obedient antics.
If Clint saw this, his eyes would’ve popped right out.
That haughty dog wouldn’t even glance at him, no matter how many expensive steaks or fancy snacks he offered. But in Claudia’s presence, it behaved like a groveling servant.
Clearly, he had grown cunning. He knew exactly who to please to live a good life.
Either way, the dog had been successfully passed off.
Everyone was satisfied.
Everyone, except the owner.
