Sterling, who was shown off, was speechless.
He stared at the door, lost in thought.

When Claudia came out of the bathroom, she spotted a man and a dog in a silent face–off.
Sterling stood there tall and cool, showing no reaction. Daron, on the other hand, was fuming, digging at the floor in anger.
But the second Daron caught that familiar sweet scent, it forgot all about kicking out its shameless ex–owner who had followed it in. Instead, the dog ran happily to the soft, nice- smelling human, presenting flowers like a gift.
Hah! Who cares if he’s here? I’m still the number one pup in this house!
Claudia chuckled, patting Daron’s big head before putting the roses in a vase. When she turned, Sterling was still standing there.
“Hmm? Why aren’t you going back to bed?”
She glanced at the dog, assuming Sterling was waiting for it, and added, “Don’t worry. Daron is with me tonight.”
Watching the two of them ignore him, Sterling gave a frustrated laugh. “I’m also staying here.”
Before Claudia could argue, he cut her off. “Daron peed on my bed. It’s soaked. I can’t sleep there.”
Daron had been spinning around happily with Claudia when it suddenly jerked its head. Its eyes went wide with shock.
Seriously? Did you just throw shade at me right to my face?
Claudia was shocked as well. “No way, right? Daron is smart.”
“Smart, yeah, but it’s got a nasty temper and loves picking on people,” Sterling said without blinking.
Seeing the dog bare its teeth, he added calmly, “It’s a bed–wetter. Better keep it out of your
room.”
People might put up with that, but a dog? Nope.
Done with being smeared, Daron lunged at the scheming guy, who was trash–talking it.

But the second it got close to Sterling, it froze at his cold stare.
It slammed on the brakes. The growl died into a whimper. It rubbed against Sterling’s leg, wagging its tail like crazy.
It almost forgot he wasn’t a good guy.
Smart dogs know when to quit.
In the end, Sterling made Daron head back to its doghouse.
Claudia, standing at the door, suddenly cracked up. Sterling looked over in confusion.
“Don’t you think Daron acts just like your rebellious kid?”
Sterling looked like some tired father dragging his troublemaker son to bed.
Her teasing made him smile. “It’s also yours now.”
“Don’t spout nonsense again. Daron is a total angel to me.”
“Uh–huh, double standards.”
Claudia laughed harder. Honestly, he wasn’t wrong.
Earlier, when Sterling walked out, Daron even tried to nail him with its toy ball, still sulking.
Sterling glared at the woman, cracking up. “You stole my dog on the first day. Don’t you think you owe me?”
She lifted her head, eyes sparkling with mischief. “How about I give you a fresh guest room?”
