Hailey could tell Donovan was unsure, so she kept talking nonstop.

She let out a dramatic sigh. “Right now, Sterling is the only one in the Romero family doing great. And Claudia is gonna join him soon. The rest of us might as well queue up for the hospital.”
Paula, sitting at the far end, put her fork down. “Hailey, if you’re going to use someone as a pawn, at least be subtle about it.”
Henry had teamed with outsiders to kill Sterling, and he ended up in a vegetative state. Tyson also lost his manhood. Paula was the only one from her branch still standing. She’d been shoved to the edge of the family, no longer part of the inner circle.
It had changed her. She’d gotten so thin that it was scary, and her eyes were cold.
Hailey rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t talking about you.”
She sounded totally dismissive. “You’re on your own–stuck with your useless husband and kid. What could anyone expect from you?”
Paula shot back with a look that could kill. “You married out. Who made you boss here?”
“Because my dad is here.” Hailey lifted her chin proudly.

Kenneth perked up. “Maybe there is.”
“Oh?”

But she never guessed the first visitor would be a girl claiming to have an arranged marriage with Sterling.
This morning, Claudia had walked Daron. When she got back, the property manager said someone was looking for her. For this girl to find her so fast, she must be pretty good at tracking people down.
Claudia let the girl inside. As soon as the girl stepped in, she started ranting.
Alice Jensen folded her arms and acted all superior. “You truly think Sterling will marry you? The only reason you had a chance was because I was out of Dracovia for a while.”
