ydia smiled but didn’t say anything.
The girl stayed quiet.
Lydia didn’t rush her. She understood how poor people thought. The money she was offering was enough to tempt anyone.
Reality was always heavier than dreams for a girl from an ordinary family.
Lydia had been sure she would succeed, but to her surprise, the girl gave her a firm refusal.
The girl shook her head. “My family isn’t rich, but we’re not that desperate either. This dance cost me so much effort. I just finished it a couple of days ago. I want to be the first one to perform it, and I won’t hand over the credit to someone else.
“Thanks for your offer, but I’m have to say no.”
The smile on Lydia’s face froze.
“Are you sure? It’s just one dance. You can always make another.”
The girl’s voice was steady. “Good work isn’t something you can just throw together. This piece is very important to me.”
Lydia’s eyes turned cold.
“Have you really thought this through?”
“I have.”
“Fine. Sorry for disturbing you.” Lydia smiled softly, as if she had only dropped in by accident and made a harmless suggestion.
She turned around, and the emotion on her face disappeared instantly.
When Lydia left, the girl who had looked so simple and naive quickly changed out of her practice clothes and walked out of the studio.
She slipped into a corner out of view from the cameras, pulled out her phone, and called. Her voice was excited. “Claudia! She fell right into the trap!”
Nobody knew how nervous she had been while dancing earlier. She was terrified she might

mess it up.
A familiar laugh came from the other side. “You did great. Starting tomorrow, you don’t have to report to the mansion anymore.”
Alice chuckled. “And that reward Sterling promised me …
“I’ll remind him when he gets back.”
“Thanks, Claudia!”
Alice decided she’d stick with Claudia from now on.
་་
She thought she had been such an idiot before–years of a secret crush, and she got nothing out of it. Not even her name is remembered. She had almost thrown herself away for nothing.
Now all she had to do was run errands and play a little act, and she was making big money.
Turns out chasing career gains felt way better.
“Claudia, if you ever need me to help again, just say the word. I’ll give it my all.”
Claudia laughed. “Don’t worry. I’ll have more for you to do later.
“Oh, and Lydia will probably come by to delete the studio footage from today. Just let her.”
“Relax, this place belongs to one of my friends. It’s already handled.”
“Good. Don’t go back to the Jensen Residence for the next few days. Stay at the place I arranged. Sterling will also send people to watch over you. Don’t be scared. Call me anytime if something happens.”
“Hehe, I’m not worried. But she left so fast–how did you know she’d take the bait?”
Claudia’s voice turned distant. “Because she has a history.”
A greedy, insecure, and arrogant person never changes their nature.
Lydia moved quickly.
The next afternoon, Alice called Claudia again.
“Damn! Claudia, Lydia is vicious! She actually tried to run me over with a car!”
Alice had never dealt with people that cruel before. This was her first real taste of how dark human hearts could be.
