er 137 Hungry Reporters
But then another reporter fired off a question.
Finished
“Ms. Wallace, are you sure that last dance was your original work? When and where did you create it? What proof do you have that it belongs to you?”
“Ms. Wallace, we’ve never heard of you releasing any choreography before. Was this a sudden burst of inspiration, or should the credit belong to someone else?”
“Ms. Wallace, several masters pointed out the big differences in style tonight, but almost every piece had your name on it. Can you confirm you actually choreographed them? Was it 70 percent, 80, or were you just listed for the credit?”
The flood of microphones and cameras nearly suffocated Lydia.
Clarence jumped up, ready to block the reporters. But then a firm hand landed on his shoulder, and a steady voice spoke.
“Let me handle this. You go and contain the press coverage first.”
It was Jasper. He had slipped into the theater during intermission.
At first, he hadn’t planned to come. But the scene at the entrance earlier–Claudia and Sterling being stopped–had already spread everywhere. He thought he might run into Claudia if he came, so he changed his mind halfway and showed up.
Lydia danced beautifully. Yet as he watched, his mind wandered back to that girl from years ago -the one who had once shone just as bright on stage.
He hadn’t seen her dance in so long.
Jasper thought with quiet sorrow.
He was ready to leave when he was sure she wouldn’t appear. But then this mess happened.
Wilson and Lottie couldn’t step into the cameras. Zane was too young and impulsive. That left Jasper to take charge with Clarence and steady the chaos.
After all, Lydia was his fiancée.
In the lounge, Sterling’s hand rested on Claudia’s shoulder. Watching Jasper step into the spotlight, he gave a low, unreadable laugh. “He really does care about Lydia.”

Claudia’s face stayed calm. “Of course. They’re a couple in the public’s eyes.”
Sterling’s lips curved faintly. “What if he insists on defending her?”
Claudia’s tone was cool but firm. “Then he’s my enemy.”
Sterling’s smile deepened, almost hidden.
Finished
On the big screen, Lydia saw Jasper step forward. His presence gave her strength, pulling her out of panic and back into control.
She smiled gracefully at the reporters. “I don’t know where this misunderstanding came from. But I can say with certainty that this last dance was 100 percent my own creation.”
Jasper stood firmly beside her. “Ms. Wallace’s assistant has already posted behind–the–scenes clips from her rehearsals. You can check for yourselves. The Lancasters and the Fentons won’t tolerate baseless lies. Expect a letter from our lawyers.”
But even his sharp tone didn’t scare off the hungry reporters.
