Nelson swallowed the scolding that almost slipped out and secretly gave himself a slap in the face.
Mind your own business next time, you fool.
When the two finally finished tidying up, Sterling took Claudia by the hand and walked in slowly.
Seeing Claudia’s innocent face, her eyes shining and ready for trouble, Donovan’s eyelids twitched hard.
Why does my grandson bring this woman here again?
Family shame should never be aired in public, but Sterling clearly had no plans to send her
away.
Donovan glared at his grandson, then turned his fury back on the middle–aged couple in front of him.
“If you walked out back then, don’t come crawling back now. If you’ve got any pride, walk out that door right now!”
The man being scolded still had bruises on his forehead. He gave Donovan a helpless look. “Dad, you’re too old to keep losing your temper like this. People would laughing at us.”
Then he turned to Sterling, hesitating. “This is … Quinton’s boy, Sterling? All grown up now.”
His eyes shifted to Claudia. “And this young lady … ?”
Sterling tightened his arm around Claudia’s waist. “Claudia. My fiancée.”
Everyone expression turned complicated.
Waylon either didn’t notice or pretended not to. Smiling, he said, “Good, good. I returned urgently and didn’t bring a gift. I’ll invite you both over for dinner another time.”
Sterling only smiled without answering.
Claudia stayed quiet.
Her role today was to be the obedient, silent eye candy.
Sensing the awkward pause, the woman standing behind Waylon finally stepped up and took his hand.

“Waylon, forget it. Let’s just go home.”
But Waylon shook his head firmly. “No. We can’t leave.”
He turned toward Donovan, his tone almost pleading. “Dad, no matter how angry you are, after all these years it should be over. This is about life and death. Please help Fiona. I’m begging you.”
Donovan’s eyes burned with disgust as he looked at Fiona. “Everyone has their own fate. She picked this path; now she has to see it through.”
Fiona’s face stayed calm. Donovan’s insults didn’t rattle her.
“Come on,” she begged, tugging at Waylon.
Waylon clenched his jaw and said in a low voice, “When I left back then, I didn’t take the inheritance and share what Mom left me. If you still refuse to help, then give me what’s mine.”
The relatives who had been happily watching the drama could no longer sit still.
Back then, Waylon had been blinded by love. He turned against the whole family to be with Fiona. He nearly drove Donovan insane and he nearly disowned his son on the spot.
