Waylon pressed his lips into a thin line. “Since Mom had left it for me, no matter what happens, only I have the right to decide what to do with it,” he said coolly.
“If you all think I shouldn’t claim it, then fine. I’ll just transfer everything to Sterling.”
Ignoring everyone’s shocked faces, he turned to Sterling, his tone eager. “Sterling, you’re the one who will lead the Romeros in the future. Grandma left me those assets, but giving them to you makes perfect sense. As for Fiona’s treatment, that’s just a word from you. If you’re willing to help us, I’ll sign the transfer papers right now.”
Even Donovan fell silent at this.
Whether fair or not, if Sterling used this excuse to take the assets back, none of them had the right to say no.
A wave of angry glares turned to Waylon.
While everyone waited in tense silence for Sterling’s answer, a sudden sneeze broke the moment. “Ah–choo!”
Claudia sneezed, then gave an awkward smile as all eyes turned toward her.
“Sorry, just a reflex,” she said quickly.
The sharp, almost suffocating atmosphere centered around Sterling instantly shattered.
He grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around Claudia’s shoulders before turning to Nelson. “Turn the air conditioning temperature up and make some lemon tea,” he ordered.
The others, who weren’t cold at all, stared at him speechlessly.
Nelson obeyed and left the room.
Everyone looked at each other–this considerate, gentle nephew almost made them wonder if this was still the same cold–blooded man they once feared.

go against him.
Waylon clearly wanted to use Sterling as his pawn.
If he couldn’t have the wealth, he wanted everyone else to fight over it.
Either way, Sterling would take all the risks, while he got to play the noble victim.
Waylon’s smile froze.

He had assumed Sterling, known for being ruthless when taking power, wouldn’t turn down something handed to him for free.
After a pause, he forced an awkward chuckle. “I was just thinking–your grandmother left behind a few antique jewelry pieces from the foreign royal family. I thought your fiancee might like them. Consider it a little gift.”
Wrapped in her blanket, Claudia leaned against Sterling’s arm, her bright eyes curving into a warm smile.
“Me? Oh, I don’t really bother about that. Sterling has plenty of money. I’m really easy to take care of.”
“Pfft-”
Dahlia couldn’t help laughing.
Outside, rain poured in sheets, the sky dark and heavy. Yet inside, the tension melted away, replaced by a strange lightness brought by the couple’s calm defiance.
Donovan looked at Waylon, who was now completely cornered by the two younger ones. He slammed his cane hard against the floor. “Stay for the night. After your mother’s memorial tomorrow, get out.”
Then he turned his sharp, cold eyes toward Fiona. “She’s not going.”
