Claudia stared at Paula’s fury without blinking. Paula wasn’t truly worried about her son. She was just terrified of losing her safety net for good.

The girls Tyson hurt and those innocent people he ran over also thought they were innocent.

Tyson totally deserved it.

Claudia stopped looking at Paula. Her voice was flat and cold.

Sterling isn’t weak. If you’re full of escape tips, keep them to yourself.

Then, she walked out and ran straight into the pouring rain.

The place Paula mentioned was a side building in the bamboo garden.

It sat near the garden. When Isabella was alive, she often played cello at the secondfloor window.

After the gardener died, they’d locked the building up.

She tried not to stare at the photos that replayed history, but the dead animals strewn across the floor were impossible to ignore.

Years ago, Winnie had thrown Sterling into the mountains for a month. The only company he had was a small orphaned wolf.

Later, to survive, they fought, and Sterling ended up killing the wolf himself.

That wolf had meant something to him.
