Donovan shot Jackson a glance. Then, he swept his eyes over the rest of his kids, each of them scheming in their own way.
Annoyed, he waved his hand and shouted, “Enough. Leave. I’ll deal with this myself.”
Frederick’s origins could never be revealed.
It was the kind of scandal that would ruin everything.
Still, Donovan felt he owed Frederick at least a meeting and an explanation.
His thoughts drifted to Sterling, who hadn’t shown up that night. A tight ache formed in his chest.
He’d always believed Sterling was his proudest creation–the sharpest weapon the Romeros ever had.
But now, he realized that Sterling also hated him.
Donovan, who had spent his whole life feeling invincible, looked like he’d aged ten years after one hospital stay. Every ounce of strength seemed gone.
Wanting peace, Donovan drove everyone out.
By the time the others returned to the manor in the middle of the night, the place was quiet. Nothing looked out of the ordinary. They argued a bit, then scattered to their own rooms, with Waylon and Fiona staying in the guest room.
Morning brought shocking news–Paula had died in a car crash during last night’s storm. Glass shards had torn through her eyes. It was brutal.
When the reporter described it on TV and the wreckage photos popped up, gasps filled the dining room. Silverware slipped from hands and clattered against the floor.
No one could believe it.
After Henry and Tyson fell from grace, Paula had been like a shadow.
She moved between the manor and the hospital, gloomy and silent, letting people step all over her.
She hadn’t shown up at the hospital last night. Someone noticed, but no one cared.

Chapter 185 Death

With Henry’s family ruined, her presence hardly mattered.
But no one thought she’d end up dead.
Jackson reacted first, snatching up his phone and ordering someone to check on Henry and Tyson.
The update came quickly. Henry was fine. He was just relocated with a new caretaker.
But Tyson had vanished, with the first guess being that he’d fled overseas.
On top of that, Paula’s family announced bankruptcy this morning. They’d been forced into the filthiest, most dangerous slum in the city.
Everyone looked grim.
They’d thought Waylon’s situation was the biggest shocker last night, but this was even worse.
Henry’s entire line was wiped out.
A chill swept the room.
The only two people who hadn’t gone to the hospital last night were Paula and Sterling. The news called her crash an accident, but everyone knew better.
Some had even recognized the car–it was a Romero vehicle.
There was no driver. So why was she out in the middle of the night alone?
Then, someone noticed the staff at the manor had been swapped out this morning.
And some of the missing ones were actually their spies.
The shake–up was massive. From last night till now, not a single whisper had reached them.
Plenty cursed Paula silently. Whatever moves she’d made, she’d dragged the rest of them down.
In all the shock, only Fiona kept her calm.
