Eventually, David lost patience. He yanked out the IV, gave up, and dragged a half–asleep Daron outside for a walk.

Seriously, those two lovebirds deserved to be struck by lightning.

Watching the sunrise was way better than watching them flirt.

But not even 30 minutes later, David came strolling back, grinning smugly.

With the leash in his left hand, his right arm held a bouquet of purple hyacinths, carefully arranged with obvious care.

He looked over at Sterling, who was in the kitchen and totally unaware, busy cooking congee. Dropping Daron’s leash, David plucked the little card from the bouquet.

“Well, well, check out what I brought.”

David’s voice dripped with amusement, the teasing obvious.

Sterling quietly untied his apron, his gaze cold as he glanced at the flowers.

“Throw it out. She hates hyacinths.”

David wasn’t the type to buy flowers for Claudia just to get under Sterling’s skin.

Clearly, that bouquet was meant for someone important.

That left only one possibility–David had intercepted them along the way.

And it wasn’t hard to figure out who sent them.

Sterling didn’t even lift his head, his face frozen.

David shrugged. “Funny, I heard Ms. Lancaster actually likes these.”

Earlier, when he and Daron got to the front gate, they spotted Jasper with the bouquet, arguing with the guards.

Jasper had tried to visit Villa 16, but security, who’d already been warned, wouldn’t let him pass.

He wouldn’t say his name, and he refused to call the resident first. What if he were some creep bothering Claudia?

The guards got strict orders that Villa 16’s residents came first.

“I don’t mind dropping off the flowers. But letting you in? Not a chance. If anything happens, that’s on me.”

So Jasper had no choice but to hand them over and beg David to pass along a message.

David’s polite, easy–going vibe made him seem reliable.

But Jasper knew he wouldn’t be getting inside today.

After all, Sterling would never allow it.

David accepted the flowers, grinning, while Jasper rambled on with apologies.

He listened without interrupting, but he was yawning nonstop in his mind.

Before leaving, Jasper hesitated and added, “Sorry, Claudia is probably still asleep. Could wait a while before giving them to her?”
