Chapter 196 Who Are You to Question Me?
Finished
Waylon poured Fiona tea with a strange look, “Sterling and his father can’t stand each other, but in love, they’re exactly the same. Back then, Blaine favored Isabella just as blatantly.”
Fiona’s face remained impassive, offering no comment.
She turned and looked at her son, Frederick, who had been unusually quiet since stepping into Romero Manor. After a pause, she asked, “Have you made up your mind?”
Frederick didn’t answer.
His gaze tracked a butterfly that looked almost like a blue morpho, watching as it landed on the shoulder of a girl in a black dress with a dazzling smile.
Once Paula’s ashes were laid to rest in the Romeros‘ private cemetery, the ceremony was finally
over.
Some guests had already left, leaving just the immediate Romeros family and a few close relatives.
After the funeral, the somber mood at Romero Manor lifted. The younger crowd started making plans for fun–some went off to ride horses, some played games, while others stayed in for tea.
By the pond, a group of youngsters from different branches of the family lingered by the path, sneaking glances at the shaded lane beyond the trees.
Logan kept running his mouth, gossiping that Sterling and Claudia were unbearable as a couple.
The others listened in agony, wishing they could just cover their ears and run away.
If anyone caught them complaining about Sterling–the golden boy and apple of Donovan’s eye–they’d be doomed.
The problem was, Logan might not have the Romero name, but he was one of Donovan’s beloved grandsons. He and his mother, Hailey, had always been well–liked, and none of them could afford to offend him.
So everyone just pretended to listen, mumbling polite responses, never daring to actually agree with what he said.
A girl with straight bangs kept rolling her eyes as she listened, and finally, when Logan claimed Sterling only became patriarch because of luck, she couldn’t hold back anymore. “But Romero Corp has reached new heights under Sterling–its performance is stronger than it’s ever been.

You really can’t say it was all just luck.”
Logan’s stare turned downright scary.

Seeing his gaze, the girl shrank back, and a taller boy next to her quickly pulled her close and laughed, “She hasn’t even finished college. She doesn’t know anything about business. Don’t be mad, Logan.”
Logan shot her a dark look, irritation simmering.
No one who hadn’t lived it would understand how much it hurt growing up with a cousin who outshone you at everything.
Sterling was like a nightmare hanging over his whole life.
Even though Hailey never liked Isabella, she still complained all the time that Logan wasn’t as smart or capable as Sterling. If he were, maybe she wouldn’t still be fighting over her maiden family’s money at her age.
Logan had always felt a deep resentment for Sterling.
Seeing Sterling represent the Romeros at such a formal event–cold and aloof, hardly speaking to anyone, yet still surrounded by fawning elders–only made Logan feel even more bitter.
He let out a cold snort. “So what if Sterling is capable? You really think that’s going to benefit any of you? What a joke. Do you even know how Paula died?”
