Are we seriously supposed to just take this lying down?

Donovan pressed his lips together and looked at Frederick, who appeared completely at ease.
He had mixed feelings about this boy. Frederick was his grandson on the surface, but in reality, he was his illegitimate son.
He couldn’t say he liked him, but he didn’t dislike him either. Still, he always felt a bit guilty toward him.
Frederick was clearly siding with Claudia, and since it was his first time back at Romero Manor, Donovan had to show him respect, whether he liked it or not.
Maybe it was just a man’s instinct, but ever since Frederick had appeared, Sterling’s eyes had locked onto him. He quickly picked up on how Frederick’s gaze kept drifting toward Claudia.
Sterling’s brows drew tight as he gripped Claudia’s hand a little tighter.
Just then, he caught Frederick looking at Claudia again.
In the undercurrents swirling beneath the tension of the hall, the two men’s eyes met for a split second.
Sterling’s eyes grew even colder, his expression darkened.
Frederick froze, then let out a wry, resigned smile.
But amidst all this tension, Claudia paid no mind to the silent clash between them. Her attention was elsewhere.
She shot Donovan a quiet, mocking smile, though her tone remained innocent. “Mr. Donovan, I know you’re always fair and you really do care about your daughter. But I wonder, did Sterling ever get that kind of careful protection when he was a kid?”
She glanced at Lawrence, who was seething but kept his mouth shut.
“After all, Sterling never had a family like the Woods behind him. He never had a father to stand up for him or a mother who was healthy and respected.”
She ignored the sudden guilty looks from Quinton and Winnie and focused on Donovan, her eyes curving in a knowing smile.
“Sterling was so pitiful back then. You must have been just as fair to him, right?”

It sounded like praise, but everyone in the room could hear the bite behind the words.
Donovan’s anger faded away instantly.
He knew exactly why Claudia was lashing out.
Anyone with half a brain could put the pieces together.

It was clear that Claudia was out for everyone who had bullied Sterling before, no matter which generation of the Romeros they belonged to.
Quinton and Winnie squirmed under the attention, and even Donovan felt embarrassed.
Moments ago, he’d been determined to get justice for Hailey, but Claudia’s words made it painfully clear he’d never do right by Isabella and her son.
Lawrence was the only one who still didn’t catch on.
No matter how wild Hailey acted, she’d never have bragged to her husband about how she used to bully her sister–in–law and nephew.
Honestly, she probably never even thought her actions were wrong.
The only time she’d ever really panicked was when Sterling went after Henry and Paula.
Still, she always figured her own wrongdoings were nothing compared to what Henry and Paula had done. And with Donovan around, she figured Sterling would never dare touch her.
The future patriarch of Romero Corp, going after her just over old family drama? She didn’t think he’d ever stoop so low.
She never expected Claudia to be the one coming after her over this.
When Donovan retracted his order for Sterling to pay for Hailey’s and Logan’s medical expenses and even insisted that Hailey and Logan apologize to Claudia after they were discharged, Lawrence was seething over this.
