Eunice eagerly poured Claudia a glass of juice and started chatting nonstop. “Here, have something to drink first. I’ll take you to get your room key in a bit. Maverick’s really made it big now, huh? Serenity Peaks Resort isn’t an easy place to book out. At least he was nice enough to give our class the best rooms.”
Then she suddenly paused. “Wait, where’s your luggage? Did you leave it at the front desk? No worries, we can grab it later. Do you want to rest in your room first?”
Claudia smiled lightly. “No, I …

“Eunice, there aren’t any rooms left.”
Claudia was about to tell her she already had a place to stay when another girl nearby spoke up awkwardly.
Eunice froze, her smile fading. “What do you mean? When I talked to Maverick earlier, he said he saved rooms for everyone in our class.”
The girl glanced at Claudia but didn’t say anything else.
Even though this reunion had people from different years, not everyone was invited. There should’ve been plenty of rooms, but Maverick Sheldon clearly did it on purpose–to make trouble for someone.
Eunice caught the meaning from the girl’s look, and her expression darkened.
What the hell is wrong with that idiot Maverick?
He never does anything right.
Damn, I had totally forgotten–back in the day, he was one of Lydia’s biggest suck–ups.
He probably still held a grudge against Claudia now.
Eunice bit back her anger but didn’t want to embarrass Claudia in front of everyone. She pretended to remember something and slapped her forehead. “Oh, right! My mistake. Too many people came, and the rooms were taken faster than I thought. Claudia, why don’t you just stay with me tonight? I’ve got a suite, and we can catch up later.”
Maverick is as good as dead.
Claudia gave her a polite smile. “It’s fine. I already have a place to stay.”
“There might not be rooms left,” a man’s voice cut in from behind her, “but there are some

open–air tents up on the mountain lookout.”
Maverick stood there in a suit, eyes gleaming with spite as he looked at her.
“Ms. Claudia,” he said mockingly, “don’t tell me that after kicking Lydia out and taking her place as the Lancaster family’s only daughter, you’ve gotten too high–class to stay in a little tent?”
The moment the host of the reunion showed up, everyone nearby started sneaking glances in their direction.
“Damn it, Maverick! Are you out of your mind?” Eunice snapped. “Who the hell wants your stupid tent? I said Claudia’s staying with me. If that’s a problem, I’ll pay ten times the room rate!”
She was furious.
Is this guy brain–dead? Does he even realize who he is talking to?
Eunice seriously wondered if Maverick hadn’t just come back from overseas but from prison. He acted like someone completely cut off from the world–clueless, reckless, and dumb enough to pick a fight with Claudia.
