Chapter 243 I’m Not Here to Negotiate With You

They were afraid she might just snap and kill them. After all, she was heartless even toward her own cousin. Besides, she was patient enough to scheme for years–it was clear she was capable of anything.
Even while pretending to be her boyfriend, Preston sometimes felt chills run down his spine.
Preston was deeply haunted by how vicious Lydia could be.
Smack!
Whitney slapped him hard across the face.
She didn’t stop at just one—she slapped him again and again until Preston’s face was so swollen it hardly looked human anymore.
“Lydia is toxic, but you’re not any better.”
No one would have believed that the Preston who seemed so noble years ago was actually rotten to the core.
After he “died,” people made him out to be a hero. Everyone he’d ever helped naturally sided with Lydia, which made Claudia’s life a living hell.
Zoey’s death had almost destroyed Claudia once before. With Preston’s death, it felt like the nightmare was starting all over again.
Whitney’s anger flared every time she remembered how Jasper and the others had used their so–called “debt” as a weapon against Claudia.
Preston didn’t dare fight back as Whitney slapped him.
It was obvious that Claudia and Whitney had come prepared. They brought a squad of bodyguards with them. When the bodyguards outside heard the commotion from his beating, they even opened the door to check.
Every single guard was armed and looked like they’d seen plenty of violence.
Claudia even told him that they already had Lydia in jail. That was when Preston realized he had lost all his backing. If he tried to fight back, he knew he wouldn’t make it out of there in one piece.
He broke down in tears, his face covered in snot and bruises, nothing like the smooth–talking man who’d first walked in.

He kept bowing to Claudia, sobbing, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I know I was wrong. I had no choice. Lydia forced me. I was just following her lead. Ms. Lancaster, please, I’ll do anything, just let me go.”
He even tried to throw Claudia a desperate, flirty look, the way he did with his old sugar
mamas.
But given how pathetic he looked, it was just laughable.
Whitney gave him a look of pure disgust and kicked him.
“Disgusting.”
She looked at Claudia. “Well? Should we bring him back home and expose Lydia?”
Claudia’s gaze swept over Preston. “If you want me to let you go, what are you offering me in exchange?”
After all that time with Lydia, Claudia didn’t believe for a second that he hadn’t kept dirt on her, just in case he needed to protect himself.
Preston’s face flickered with a dozen emotions, a calculating gleam flashing in his eyes.
He didn’t know if Lydia was really in jail or if Claudia was bluffing.
He still had dirt on Lydia, and as long as the Lancasters had power, he could keep using it for leverage.
But if he handed it over to Claudia, he’d lose any bargaining chip he had left.
Plus, what if Claudia tricked him?
After everything he’d done to her, if he were her, he’d want revenge, too.
“Ah!”
Preston howled in pain, breaking out in a cold sweat.
While he hesitated, a fruit knife was plunged into his palm.
“You really think I’m here to negotiate with you?”
