Claudia gestured toward the pale–faced Preston. “This is Mr. Wood. He loves the ocean. Take him out and let him soak in seawater for a few days. Let’s see if it clears his head.”

“Yes, Mrs. Romero.”

They didn’t ask any questions, just gagged him and dragged him away.

Sterling’s video call came through just in time to see Preston being hauled out, the knife still stuck in his bloody hand.

Whitney had worried that Sterling might be shocked to see Claudia get so ruthless.

Plenty of men were ruthless themselves but couldn’t stand to see their women be anything but innocent.

But Sterling only frowned and said, “Why handle it yourself? That’s gross.”

Whitney could only stare, speechless.

After a while, Sterling kept dropping hints for Claudia to come home early. Whitney, finally fed up with all their flirting, couldn’t help but jump in.

She poked her head into the frame and gave a polite smile. “Mr. Romero, Claudia is here for best–friend time. Please respect my time with her, okay?”

Seriously, did this guy have to hog her best friend every minute?

Claudia had only been here one day!

Sterling greeted her with a smile. “Ms. Sawyer, thank you for looking after Claudia. I heard the Sawyer Group is looking for gemstone mines. Maybe I could offer you a few as options.”

If Sterling was offering something, it was bound to be good.
