Claudia understood him now–he didn’t get jealous over the big stuff, but went nuts over the little things.
If it went too far, it could cause trouble between them. But a little jealousy here and there? That was fine. She’d even turn it into a game–tease him a bit, coax him out of it, maybe earn herself a few extra perks while she was at it.
If Claudia knew about Florence’s decision right now, she’d be totally on board.
Meanwhile, Whitney had originally planned to take Claudia out club–hopping and maybe check out some of the local hot guys while she was in Marvonia.
But that plan died fast the moment Sterling made one quick call–and handed her a piece of his gemstone mine.
It’s hard to turn around and say no after that. If you take a man’s money, you can’t exactly take his wife partying afterward.
Plus, Whitney was a little nervous. What if they accidentally ran into him?
That fancy bar they went to last time had turned out to be one of his properties. Who knew what else he owned? If she brought his fiancée into one of his clubs and started pointing out
Yeah, that would not end well.
hot guys…
Luckily, neither of them really needed the wild nightlife to have fun. As long as they had each other, even chatting over dinner was enough.
At a little hidden restaurant Whitney had found, Claudia glanced down at her phone, expressionless, then set it aside. Whitney raised an eyebrow. “The Lancasters?”
Claudia nodded. “Yeah.”
Ever since she sent Lydia to prison, the Lancasters had realized she meant what she said about cutting ties. Add Sterling’s warning on top of that, and they’d been too busy saving themselves to bother her again.
But lately–for whatever reason—they’d started trying to reconnect.
The message she’d just read was from Clarence, using someone else’s phone to invite her to Lottie’s birthday party.
Whitney snorted. “Funny. They never celebrated yours, but theirs? Not once missed.”

Claudia chuckled softly.
Trying to make up for it now–it’s meaningless.
At that moment, back home in Dracovia-
Lottie was in tears, stopping the maids from cleaning Claudia’s old room. “Don’t touch it! I’ll do it myself!”
She looked around the small, cluttered space–far smaller than Lydia’s luxurious bedroom, still filled with Lydia’s leftover junk–and guilt hit her hard.
How many wrong choices had she made over the years?
Because of her guilt toward her sister, she’d ended up losing the daughter who truly loved her.
While Lottie sat in silence, weighed down by sorrow, Claudia had just finished dinner with Whitney when her phone rang again.
It was a call from one of Sterling’s bodyguards.
“Ma’am, you might need to come back,” he said. “Preston claims he still has something to tell you–about Lydia’s mother.”
When they saw Preston again, they almost didn’t recognize him.
The man lying on the bed looked nothing like his usual charming self. His skin was wrinkled from being soaked in seawater too long, and every strand of his hair carried the sharp stench of the ocean.
His once–handsome face was swollen and bruised, his body covered in cuts and welts.
It was clear that the bodyguards–beyond Claudia’s original instructions–had decided to “teach him a lesson” of their own.
But perhaps that was what finally broke him. Crushed both physically and mentally, Preston ended up spilling one last secret.
