Chapter 266 Lydia’s Scandal
#Finished
Clarence hadn’t visited Lydia in prison many times, but in just two months, she seemed like a completely different person.
Her usual confidence and pride were gone, replaced by a careful, cautious way of moving.
He couldn’t help softening a little. “Let the chef take good care of you for a while.”
Everyone at the table was willing to let things slide. Slowly, the mood improved. No one mentioned that infamous livestream that had ruined her reputation.
Lydia loosened her grip on the utensils. Good–the Lancasters are still easy to handle, just like always.
Next, it was time to reconnect with her friends and admirers. She couldn’t dance anymore, so she had to plan a new future for herself.
But halfway through dinner, Wilson’s phone rang.
On the other end came the furious voice of a company shareholder. “Mr. Lancaster! Can you handle your family’s drama for once? Is the company supposed to survive this kind of scandal right now?
“I don’t care! You’ll have to cover most of the losses from the stock drop yourselves!”
Back–and–forth insults left Wilson’s head spinning.
He frowned hard. “What are you talking about?”
“Hah, what am I talking about? Check the news today yourself!”
At that moment, Clarence’s phone rang too. His assistant’s panicked voice came through. “Mr. Lancaster! It’s bad! Ms. Lydia was snapped by paparazzi when she got out of jail!”
His voice carried across the room. Everyone nearby turned to look at Lydia, who looked as pale as a ghost.
Plagiarism and jail time were completely different things.
Back when Lydia had been taken away on that livestream, the public only knew the plagiarism was confirmed. The later rumors about hiring someone to hurt people were never officially reported.
The Lancasters had spent a fortune pulling strings. Even though gossip floated around the industry, the general public didn’t know Lydia had actually been in jail.

The public story the Lancasters put out was that Lydia had sent an apology letter and would be going abroad for further training to improve her skills and make up for her mistakes.
Clarence even dug up a few scandals about some celebrities to bury the story fast.
No matter how many rumors were out there, without solid proof, they insisted Lydia was just leaving the country.
But once she actually got out, the news spun out of control.
Before Lydia’s scandal, the company loved putting her name out there–after all, she was a genius dancer, and she made the Lancasters’s business look polished and classy.
Her plagiarism alone had already knocked the stock down a bit. Now, with jail rumors spreading, the company’s shaky position was getting worse by the minute.
The warm, easy vibe at the dinner table instantly froze.
Wilson’s gaze on Lydia was sharp as an arrow.
All because of her! All the sleepless nights he’d spent trying to save the company had been for nothing!
